My Gateway 600YGR suddenly stopped showing any display :( . As I press the power button, the power status light comes on for 5 seconds, fan keeps on running but nothing shows on lcd screen.........stays dead. Tried external monitor........but nothing showed up........The heatsink screws seems intact. And it still charges the battery.........

The system was working fine for the last two years....any help or suggestion would be appreciated........

If you have tried an external monitor, my best guess would be something wrong with the motherboard or graphics card. If it is still under warranty, take it in. Otherwise take it to a shop where they can find out what is wrong with it.

This thread is old and I'm not sure if the originator is still around, but I've had the same problem with my 600YGR. Once I fixed it by re-setting the HDD, and the second time I had to send it to Gateway, and they had to redo some "cold-solders".

All in all, this thing has been a POS from the beginning, though :(

Ive had the same problem with my 600ygr a few times, JUST reseating the hard drive doesnt work, it seems you also have to disconnect the power supply from the AC and let its caps bleed, leaving both without power for a few min (laptop and psu) gets it back, if you just unplug the laptop and reseat the hdd it doesnt work. leaving the power supply itself unplugged for awhile does the trick. standard feedback short or something, quite annoying.
