Hello guys and gals, got a quick question. I have a Gateway 6020gz that will shut off with out any warring. Did a little trouble shooting and I have narrowed it down to a faulty battery. (Maybe) When the power adapter is plugged into the laptop the battery will charge, but never more that say 15%. The laptop will run for 30 min or so and once the battery is drained it just shuts off. No waring, just "bam" shut down, and this is with the power adapter attached. If I remove the battery and just leave the power adapter connected, the laptop will not start. Is this model made to only work with a fresh battery regardless if the power adapter is attached or not? I'm ready to purchase a new battery, but thought I would check with you guys "the experts" first. Thanks in advance!!

Just a small update. I left the laptop off for 3 days now, and the battery light changed from purple to blue, meaning the battery is fully charged. I still can't run the laptop with just the power cord attached and the battery removed, but at least I have a full charged battery. I can run the laptop for two hours and then charge it for 3 days! Anyone know why it wont charge when the laptop is on, but will slowly charge when off? Thanks.

Tried a different power outlet ? I suspect some kind of short circuit, power adaptor or the outlet.

    Thanks Maverick79,
I was beginning to think no one liked me! My daughter has same model laptop. I will borrow her power supply and try a different outlet. Will post results. Thanks again.

Well no luck, changed outlet, turned on laptop, with power adapter attached, and watched the power meter in windows claim it was "charging" as I watched the battery % slowly drop. :( Any more ideals..........?
