    Hey all,

I've been a happy owner of a Gateway 6831 FX for about 2 years.
About a week ago the normally quiet unit started making a some noise (nothing extreme but enough that i want to check before it becomes a real problem) noise is coming from what i believe is the GPU fan, found on the right side, if the laptop is face down.

I'm expecting to find a some of cat and girlfriend hair tangled up around the fan that, despite may best efforts to avoid, has simple built up over the 2 years.

I've managed to dislodge some lint and debris using air duster, but not enough to fix the problem and for some reason this is the only part of the computer that is difficult to access.

I've looked through the Disassembly guide from the forum.

but i'm hoping i can get to the fan without having to get to take off all the components, screen, keyboard, heat sink etc..

So can i get a look at the fan without taking everything out?

I've got a strong computing background, with software and desktops, but this is my first time attempting laptop hardware repair, so looking to take my time and do it right..

    Thx
    Wyld

Make sure you angle the "straw" that usually comes with the compressed air outwards the fan exit... meaning, the way that the air flows out of the vent, use the can to force it out that way as well so that you are not compacting the air further inside the heatsink
