OK, here comes yet another thread about ridiculous DPC in Vista compared to XP. I know this is hardware to driver issues, but wow, the latency is BAD for this laptop.

My first question is this: Is anyone using this notebook for Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) capabilities, and if they are, how are they dealing with the high DPC?

Secondly, can anyone provide me with their average DPC using the DPC Latency Checker program freely available on the 'net using Vista 32-bit and the 6831/7811/whatever the new Gateway version is? If your latencies are lower than 1 second (1000 microseconds), how did you get the latency lowered? I've shut down integrated audio drivers, USB drivers, network ethernet drivers, WiFi drivers, bluetooth drivers, disabled ACPI battery drivers, and still get yellow to red spikes (>1sec latency). This is COMPLETELY unacceptable using the notebook as a DAW (too many pops and clicks).

If you are running a nice latency within Vista, did you update your drivers or the BIOS to get the DPC to fall? I've read that X58 mobos (Gigabyte in particular) have lower DPC in Vista after newer BIOS updates are applied. Can someone with a newer BIOS on the 6831FX provide me with their average Vista 32-bit latency? If you have 64-bit running, please provide that also, but noting the different software architecture.

I've tried disabling just about everything except performing driver and BIOS updates.

    Thanks,
    Mike
