Is anyone else using Vista 64bit with their 6831fx right now?
I am installing another hard drive to run Raid 0. I have a copy of Vista 64bit and have looked everywhere regarding the benefits of it. The main reason I am considering it is so that all 4GB's of RAM are addressed by the OS. I am willing to take the plunge if all the 64bit drivers exist for this laptop. However, for video I like to use the latest beta drivers. I mainly use it for gaming, internet surfing, and homework. Please share about your experience. Your opinions regarding 64bit are also appreciated.

It works great. Use the video drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com (I have the 174.31's) and the others should be easy.

The video drivers lie. They are 32 bit only, they wouldn't install on 64. I downloaded the chipset and wifi card drivers direct from Intel and put them on a flash drive before I installed x64, then installed and used windows update to download most of them, works great. Only the modem driver did I have any real issues with, and I just downloaded the one from gateway and did the "have disk" trick to install them. No unknown devices at all.

Well I setup Raid 0 and installed Vista Business 64bit. I got a free copy from someone! :D I ran Windows Update after install and it found drivers on its own for everything except "Internal High Definition Audio Bus" . I think it is referring to the onboard microphone which seems to be the only thing not working. Way to easy!!
I installed the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software and will install the latest drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com and then I'll be set.

Bootup takes longer :( ... not sure if that is due to Raid 0 or 64bit. I have tweaked my vista install and everything else is running great. It sure is nice to see 4GB's in the Task Manager!

I run Vista Ultimate, 4GB RAM, and RAID 0 7200RPM Hitachi 7K200 HDDS, and my boot time is substantially faster than Vista Home Ultimate x32 (Single 5400RPM Drive).

I have been using Vista Home 64 bit since I purchased this laptop about 2 months ago and I have found all the drivers between Gateway website,Intel and Google.I was using the new Forceware drivers 174.31 from laptop video 2 go however I had some issues running some of my games where the video card driver would stop working so I went back to 171.16 and those are pretty stable with all of the games that I play. As far as boot up time mine boots up a lot faster than it did right out the box but I did some tweaking following threads here on this website as well as on the web from other websites.

I ran 3dmark06 after installing 174.31. No good! 6670  I will give one of the 169.xx or 171.xx series a shot. Is their any difference between say 169.61/169.44 and 171.xx on Crysis and UT3 with this laptop in 64bit. There are a lot of opinions on the net and most do not relate to the 8800gts... let alone to 64bit vista. Just curious about your favorites. Thanks to those who have already posted there thoughts.

I recently installed Vista Business 64 and couldn't find the drivers for the Internal High Definition Audio Bus. I tried letting Vista look for drivers and also looked for them at the Gateway site, but had no luck. What's really weird is that I do have audio coming from the speakers and from the headphone jack. It's the only device in my device manager that doesn't have the driver installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same here. I haven't figured out what the missing driver does. Therefore I don't know what to search for.

I had this problem too when I first installed Vista 64 bit. I found out that it was the modem. Agere HDA Modem. Once this driver is installed it should be fine in device manager. Do note that I had to install this driver manually in order for it to properly install. When I tried to install it the regular way it would not install.

I tried the 169.09 with Crysis and it ran pretty well but I then upgraded to the 171 series driver and it seems to run a little bit smoother on my system with this driver. But I believe the 169 series driver is recommended for Crysis. I think there is a new patch for Crysis that was recently released as well version 1.2 did not look at the details as to what it fixes as of yet.

Thank you flamarc for the information. I will definately give it a try. I don't even use modems anymore, but it just irks me that I don't have that one driver.

Not a problem I dont use it either but I am like you I cant stand to see unknown devices in my device manager. :p I also do not like the shortcut arrow on my icons. But I guess that I am just a little too meticulous at times.
