Can anyone help? My Gateway 7415GX was attacked by a virus and will no longer log on. When I attempt to log on, it logs on for a second and then quickly logs off. One source told me I need to restore the system. I have pressed the f10 key during startup and when I select hard drive or network boot, windows XP begins loading again and I am back to Square 1. Any Ideas or suggestions are appreciated

press f8 or shut the computer off when the Windows XP picture screen is loading (The one with the blue loading bar and the BIG XP logo) to get to the recovery screen. Start in safe mode.

You can try w/ network but if the network is infected also then ull just have to use safe mode and then transfer an antivirus using a flash drive/cd. I recommended Malwarebytes Anti-malware and Combofix (Only if you've tried every other last resort, Combofix may cause you to lose data/make programs not work, be ready to reformat if combofix doesn't work correctly on your computer). I have however used combofix successfully several times.

If you can get into safe mode you can get files off the computer also, not a bad idea when your OS has a virus..

The Safe mode and the Safe Mode W/network brought me back to the login page again and I still couldn't proceed from there. I suppose I will have to try transfering the Anti Virus as suggested.
    Thanks for the feed back.

You can use a sata to usb adaptor, take out the drive and hook it up to a different computer. Run a virus scan through the drive with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
