    is there anyway to change/update the fan in this notebook? Jeez it feels like this thing isn't even doing anything i dont have any problems playing games like the other people but it feel like the fan that gateway has implemented is of cheap/shoddy quality...too much hot air anyone else think so?

    Notebook fans are usually proprietary as typically are their connectors. So no.

    much hot air coming out -> its doing its job, if you had cold air coming out that would mean it is spinning for nothing. or if it makes noise and doesn't push much air then its pos fan...

    well the reason i was so considered was i have a sony vaio AR and it is WAY cooler then this, oh well guess you cant win it all.

    well you cant compare 8400gt@??? to 9800gts@1920x1200.
    and the p8400 should be cooler than the t7100 even it is clocked higher and preforms much better.

    Yup, I agree. You get hot air because the cooling fan is working great. And the comparison doesn't work because it's apples to oranges.

    Reminds me of reading "reviews" of desktop CPU coolers. People would assume that the heatsink that felt cooler was the better one. Nevermind that fact that the entire purpose of a heatsink is to pull heat away from something else. It's SUPPOSED to get hot. :)

    While that would seem common sense it is actually incorrect. Physics 101 - 2nd law of thermodynamics. The heatsink will reach an equilibrium temperature based on its ability to transfer heat to the surrounding medium (air). The cooler the heatsink the better job it is doing of transferring heat to the surrounding medium. Of course the heatsink could be bad at transferring heat from the CPU to itself to begin with however this is typically lesser a problem in laptops and notebooks where the main constraint is the size of thermal transfer area in the heatsink and the airflow.

    In short, the cooler a heatsink the better a job it is doing typically, bar a very bad thermal transfer interface between the heatsink and surface being cooled.

    i agree as well, but there is no way an air based unit gona take heat and transfer it into cold air, a good cooler can get hot fast and chill down fast, and the better they are the lower max temp you'll see.
