Anyone have recommended graphic settings for cod4?

I have been running everything at high (including 1920x1200 res) w/ no anti aliasing and I get around 30 fps average but a lot of times it drops down to the mid teens during heavy gameplay. I thought this pc (7811) could handle cod4 at max settings with a constant smooth gameplay.

    any suggestions?

also, I would notice a significant drop in fps when my graphics card would get really hot (105c) but now I have a fan on it keeping it at 90c average.

    Thanks for input

those temps are wayy too hot. it should max out at about 80c. maybe this is just the 7811s with the hight temps.

you should try playing in DX9, you may get better frame rates there, but it really seems like a cooling problem. follow the guide to disassemble your pc and clean the dust out of the fans and then buy a zalman

EDIT: do not continue to play at those temps if you value your video card

Jesus, what is it with COD4? Seems like it always raises temps. Maybe that's just because it's a popular game. But I agree with TheGOAT. To cool it better, you could get a cooling pad (is that what the fan is?), raise it's back, and use compressed air on the GPU fan.

I don't have the game myself, but I'm sure lowering the resolution would help. And if there are any shadow settings in the game, you could lower or turn them off. With pretty much every game I have, shadows kill framerate.

yeah I thought those temps seemed too high, I just bought this laptop used about a week ago so I am hoping that once I clean the fans it will run cooler. Also, for cleaning the gateway fx fans, do I need to take off the whole bottom compartment? or should I simply spray compressed air through the vents on the side of (gpu) and on the bottom of the pc?

Is there anyway to undervolt the graphics card?

I undervolted the processor which made it run 15c cooler, if there was some safe way to do that with the 9800gts that would be great.

I'd take off the bottom panel. It's easy, no sense in not doing it. And as far as I know, the GPU can't be undervolted.
