    Hi guys.

I'm giving my 8510 GZ to my GF kid fo a grad present.

I removed the 2 GB of RAM I bought & put back the original 512 MB since he won't need the extra RAM since he's a kid (no offense to anyone) & all he does is hang on myspace.

Anyway, I'm now getting this error message upon boot up, which is the last line.

    ERROR:
0232: Extended RAM failed at offset: 1D

Press <F1> to resume, <F2> to setup.

I hit F2 figuring the BIOS needs to "see" the RAM that way & then I hit F10.
When it reboots, I get the same error.

What's odd is that the 2 line reads this:
    512M System RAM passed

So my 2nd line says the RAM is good to go, but the last line says no.

Anyone know why it's doing this with the original RAM reinstalled?

It never gave me an issue before.

    Thanks.

BTW, hitting F1 lets it boot to XP & it runs fine.

What are you going to do with the RAM - sell it on EBay???

Go into the BIOS and select go with last settings that worked and then save and try it - it should work, if not PM me.

Kid's generally do do a lot more than hang on myspace so give him at least 1GB PLEASE!!! (unless you want to use it when in that case take more of it and give yourself a good time!!!)!

    Got it fixed.

Seems the edge connectors on both dimms, even though they've been stored in the antistatic bubbles the 1GB dimms came in, oxidized "just enough" to give me the 2 beep boot "error" even though Windows, & the BIOS recognized the full 512 MB.

I cleaned them both, reinstalled & all is fine.
