Got mine last night, looks great so far and for $1,199.99 I'm very pleased so far. I did have a minor problem installing my Logitech MX 600 Laser Mouse at first but finally got it working, otherwise it looks like a winner!!

Just cancelled my HSN order couldn't imagine paying almost $500 more for the same computer.

Ordered it from Best Buy.com a few minutes ago, should be here Thursday.

I'd like to get this as the specs generally look good, but, I'm still tempted to order thru Gateway to get:

    1. A high-res screen
    2. A better replacement/damage plan.

BB's plan does NOT cover screen breakage.

I do AutoCAD, and higher screen resolution would be a real plus with less need to scroll around the screen. The same thing for Photoshop and Illustrator.

Are you able to purchase BB's Extended Plan after sale, or must it be purchased at time of original purchase?

I believe that you can purchase it up to 30 days after the sale.

I just priced this on the Gateway site and for the exact same specs as the unit offered at BB it priced out to $1444.

    That's with 512MB RAM, 100GB 5400RPM drive, WXGA Ultrabrite screen and a 64MB X700 video card.

Ideally, I'd like to order the system from Gateway with:

    17" WUXGA Ultrabrite Screen
    512MB x1 RAM
    100MB 5400 RPM Drive
    128MB X700 Video
Port Replicator w/ extra AC adapter
    3 Year Total coverage

BUT, it would then be $2169

WOW! Almost $700 more than the BB price w/ an extended warranty...

Oh yeah, and to add to the confusion the Toshiba M65 is on sale at CC for $1350.

I just picked one of these up today. Excellent machine. Talked to the sales rep and he said you could purchase the extended warranty at a later date so long as you brought your machine in to be inspected to see if you still applied. I'm going to pick it up as soon as the funds become available.

No offense, but I thought BB extended plans were for suckers? Why are they suddenly a good deal?

Not the Best Buy ones, and here's why:

    Free battery replacement.

They'll replace the battery free about once a year; I actually checked with a supervisor on this. It's almost stupid not to get one, just because the cost of three batteries is usually a good $200 over what you pay up front for the warranty.

I like my laptop, other than the failed harddrive, and bad Gateway customer service.

Well UPS delivered the Laptop this Afternoon. And It is Beautiful! The Screen is incredible, and it has amazingly fast performance! The Separate Number pad is a great add on, and hope more DTR Notebooks follow this trend in the Future.

Weight of the Computer does not seem to be an issue......... It's only about 1.5pds heavier then my 15" PowerBook. The Gateway will mainly be for Home Usage, and i'll bring this when I go away on Vacations and leave the PowerBook at Home.

All in All, So far a Great Machine, haven't had time to test out the graphics capabilitys yet, but will buy a few games soon so I can check it out.

Very Pleased with my Purchase, and I commend Gateway for building a solid DTR Notebook.

Pick one up while they are on Sale, You won't regret it.

Hehe, well just consider the price of a laptop battery and then consider that BB covers you battery the whole 3 years... I got a new one after just a year all i did was tell them that it wasnt holding as good of a charge as it used to. Not to mention they cover most all hardware problems, heat, humidity, dust, LIGHTENING, Power surge, dead pixels, optical drive, all ports... you dont have to pay anything or any deductable either, no lemon policy... i work at BB lol, but i bought a service plan on my notebook before i worked there and i would still buy one after working there, probably moreso after seeing what people pay to have them worked on if they dont have service plans... but dont take my word for it....

If you do buy the laptop from BB, make sure and buy Best Buy's warrenty.

Gateway's customer support is run by a bunch of kids who get paid $6 an hour who read off a screen prompt and know jack sh!t about customer support.
