According to PC Mag, gateway will be releasing dual core versions of several of their systems, but they already have one, the NX 560 on their website for sale. The two options available to customize start at $1099 and $1299 for this 15.4" notebook.

    Check it out here!!

Is this model comparable to any of Gateway's current retail offerings? Specifically the form factor/features/screen/etc. I've never used a Gateway laptop and would like to look at one at Circuit City/Best Buy/CompUSA before considering buying one.

They also have two more versions. The NX650, and S-7510. If you load any of these notebooks with maximum RAM, 100 GB HDD, T2500 processor and Bluetooth, you are within $100 of the Acer TM 8200 WLMi. This one has much better specs and comes with 667 MHz RAM, not 533, plus X1600 GPU.

However, you can save over $500 by buying a slower processor, 80 GB HDD, and 1 GB RAM. Not a bad deal!!!

shel10...remember though...many people have easily negotiated significant amounts off if they called Gateway to order, rather than doing it online. Especially if you're loading hte machine up. Also, many have gotten huge discounts on the extended warranty and ADP coverage through Gateway. I was quoted a price on the phone that was $350 lower than spec'd on their website for an M680.

edit - this was back when the M680 was a current model...and not just before it was revamped or anything

I hate to burst your bubble (arg, I hate that expression, but I am short on resources at this time ;)), but it is actually an X1400SE which supposedly means that the memory is only 64-bit whereas the regular X1400 is 128. This really disappointed me too (if you are). :(
