Sorry guys this is my first post, but after looking around google for a good 30 minutes I haven't been able to find anyone else with this problem.

I have tried every driver available for this card. I have tried some Nvidia Official Drivers, the gateway drivers, nvidia beta drivers, user customized drivers (from the sticky on this forum) and none of them have made a difference.

    So what should I do?

    Here are the screenshots.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/21412726@N04/sets/72157614618465736/

It randomly disappears and appears but it happen very very frequently...like half of the time. I also noticed that when I press PrtScreen it goes away then it comes back randomly. So I'm basically stuck pressing prtsc constantly.

I have tried it with multiple games and it happens with all of them. It only happens while I'm playing games.

I got this from bestbuy this week so I can still exchange it. I have tried everything and I can't seem to find any information at all about this problem.

Also i got an AUO WXGA screen so maybe if I'm lucky I can get an LG WXGA or AUO WUXGA (not likely as I think gateway stopped making those)

Well, I had a problem with my screen a while back. It didn't do that, but it did have scratches.

Your problem may be similar to mine--- you should just return it and get another one. (If it doesn't show up in the print screens that means it is a problem with your monitor and you can't really do anything about it-- or at least I don't know how to help you from there.)

Take it back. I had the same problem after I overclocked a videocard to high on a different PC.

What are your card temps like? Getting good ventilation for the sides and bottom. -Is it sitting on a hard smooth surface so the vents are blocked?

Those are artifacts usually caused by overheating video card or a defective video card.

sweet thanks guys. Yah its definitely the video card because it does show up on print screen and only comes up on video games.

Well it also happened when I was on a bed. But its so wierd that it instantly stops when I press prtsc...is that normal?

nope. If I was I would have stopped by now. And like I said I have tried it on different surfaces and it doesn't matter. And its always doing it.

BTW should I go for a display model if its in good shape and its 1900

Have you checked your temps when it does it with HWMonitor?

If the display model is in mint shape, go for it.
Sometimes can get 10% off for a display model as well.

yea I think I remember it being in mint shape. Also the display model was closed and off when I got there and when I booted it up it hadn't even have the best buy software installed.

I'm not going to with the PC. I want to see if I can get a better model. Besides The laptop shouldn't be overheating that constantly. If it is than something is wrong.

But like I said everytime I press prtsc it goes away so it must be unrelated to the temperature.

I brought it to the store with a couple of screenshot and the technician was like "is it in more than one game" and "did you try different drivers" I told him I had tried a bunch of different drivers and it was in all my games and than he was like alright not much we can do.

They were out of stock and they refused to give me the display model, probobly because they had none in stock to replace it which makes sense. So they just gave me a full refund.

Not bad, I was expecting a battle but they were super cool. I'm glad I bought it from best buy (woah I never thought I would say that????)

Thanks guys if it wasn't for you guys I might have figured that it was hardware problem too late and ended up shipping it to gateway for warranty repair.

Nope I'm buying another but I'm going down to hileah to get it. I must say this laptop is amazing and it has a few quirky things like no bluebooth and crappy touch controls but at its core its an amazing laptop. Even the 2k alienwares aren't as fast and don't have a 9800GTS video card.

Since this is the first laptop to use the 9800GTS that might explain the defective video cards.

Well I'm off and I'm gonna go try to convince the other bestbuy (which has 7805us but is a long drive) to sell me the display model.

I mean this laptop is unbelievably fast and the price of a desktop with the same specs as this baby would not be much less.

Besides its a lot less clutter to have a laptop even if I'm not going to move around with it because its all one. I just plug in my G9 Mouse and I'm set.

And I love taking my laptop over to my friends house and how my 1150 dollar laptop is faster than his $1500 Dell studio XPS

Good, was hoping one defective unit didn't scare you from all of them because for me this machine has been the best I've ever used :)

Best of luck getting the resolution you want and a non-defective :)

Post back with what happens :D
