I got the processor working well now with my new heatsink and fan. It ideals in the mid 30s and only goes to 70 @ 1.1500 x 12.5
-
And to sethro, yes Nvidia System Tools is great for simple OC'ing through Windows. I did a Vbios mod but that can be very risky if you don't know what you're doing.
.17c is better than .23 imo since the fans are completely dead in .23 until you reach 70 degrees or so, which is really bad for the Laptop overall as you want to keep things as cool as possible to keep your components alive for the long run.
I'm using the latest Beta driver right now and it runs great, especially if you're into Skyrim as it runs flawlessly now on my system (with HD textures, max settings, 4x aa etc.) -
Thanks for the quick reply's everyone I am sure I will have more questions but I think that's it for now. Now I just have work to do.
-
Can anyone suggest some where to start for settings. I know every oc is a little different just looking for a good spot to start for both cpu and gpu. Also what I should be looking at for temps. Also another noob question is undervolting part overclocking? Does undervolting help achieve lower temps? Thanks all for all the help.

Okay, back to the drawing board, gents.
My laptop still hasn't overheated on me but I seen random temp spikes. It hasn't gone over 90 but sometimes when it's idealing it goes from 38 to 47 and back to 39 randomly or there are just weird spikes in tempture at ever turn. I've replaced both fans and the heat sink. I'm using arctic silver as thermal paste. I used a little larger the normal drop because it kept burning out to fast. Let's see what we can come up with?
Is it also possible that maybe Throttlestop isn't reading my temps correctly? I know that when it said it was 56C I took off the backing really quickly and the heatsink doesn't really feel all to hot.
EDIT:::
Here is another little technological mystery for you. My PC keeps shutting down while playing skyrim. Like it is overheating but I've been keeping tabs on it and my laptop isnt overheating according to throttlestop. Last couple logs before it shuts down.
P.S. I lowered the multipliers back to 11.5 thinking that was the reason why it
kept shutting down. My stable is still 12.5 @ 1.1500 or 13.5 @ 1.2000
-
Hello all I'm writing this in safe mode. I did as suggested got to 12.5 at 1.200v. As soon as I clicked the up button to select 12.5 bsod. And the bsod happens every time I try to reboot I can only boot in safe mode which does not let me run throttle stop to adjust settings. I looked in startup list of services and programs in msconfig to see if there was a TS process running at boot none. I'm a little confused though because I thought that without TS running the settings would be stock. Why the repeat bsod? Windows does not even have enough time to get to login screen. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated because I have no idea what to do.
-
Hello all I'm not writing this in safe mode sorry for noobing up the forum. I made the mistake of not changing power settings. I think that was it because now It will boot. Lesson learned.
-
In th future just delete the TS ini file in safe mode and reboot. This tells TS there are no saved settings. You can't just up the multiplier without first upping vcore.
The BSOD will happen without a supporting vcore first. So play with upping the CPU on the 2-4 and not the first as this way once it boots it only goes to the first safe setting you have saved. Also you must power down the system on reboot to loose the last settings TS set the bios too or it will try and reboot with those multiplier and vcore settings before reaching TS again to give it new settings to run at................. -
I am now getting bsod not on reboot but randomly I really dont know what is going on because almost every bsod is a different error. Deleting the .ini will reset all settings? I will try that. As I dont really know where to start. Because I have done so many different things to the machine lately. Again Thanks for the advice. I'll get this thing fixed or kill it trying.
-
Delete the .ini and if it automatically checked SLFM, uncheck it. That solved all of my problems with gaming. If it doesn't solve your problems then you should try lower overclock settings. Try x12 @ 1.18XX [I forget the last two digits.]

I'm curious to know if you're playing Diablo 3 open beta. I'm running a bone stock, and insufficiently cooled, 7805u, and I'm running at max (1440 x 900) with everything set to high, practically lag free. I'm completely surprised, and I'm very pleased. D3 and Battlefield were the main reason I was going to ditch the 7805u. I guess I was under the impression that this laptop would underperform drastically. So far, I was wrong, and I'm glad I was.
With my T9900, Crucial SSD, ICD7, playing on my 52" @ 1080p should be a breeze.
Battlefield 3... I was playing it a couple months back and suffered significant lag at low settings. Not crippling lag, but enough to annoy the living crap out of me. The slightest glitches in FPS games unbearable, as I'm sure you all know. I've since upped my cooling and performed general software maintenance, so I'll have to give it a shot.
With all of my new goodies, do you think I'll see a significant BF3 improvement? Anyone running BF3 at 1080p+ at anything above low settings? -
Hey guys thanks for everything. All this advice has helped immensely. Things are running smoothly. No bsod so far skyrim is running almost completely maxed I have to turn off fxaa in game and set shadow detail and decal quantity to high instead of ultra. it will run at about 25-30 fps on the main world map. So far my oc settings are 1.1875 vid x 13 multiplier cpu running at 3458.0 MHz at about 68c max load 35-40c idle. Gpu settings are 700 900 1775 at about 35-45c idle and and maxes at about the same as the cpu. So far so good. Thanks again.

How can I tell if throttle stop is affecting both cores?
-
I have HDD lag in modern warfare 3
9800GTS 1GB
4GB ram
max settings/max res -
I am getting frustrated. The settings I posted before have proven to be problematic. Sometimes things go well for days at a time other times bsod randomly multiple times a day doing random tasks. Sometimes just idle on the desktop, surfing, gaming, playing video, encoding video. Just all over the board really. So right now I am not currently running any overclocked specs and everything is fine. Actually skyrim is running better than it was when I was OCd. Could the source of these problems be my power brick? I have not tested anything running only bat power. Thanks again
-
With 1900*1200 with everything maxed I am getting a solid 30 FPS in Sniper Elite v2.

Is any one else having huge issues with the newest nvidia driver?
-
v301.42 Windows 7/Vista 64bit
ZERO issues... -
I installed the update and my phsyx install is now not right. and the hd audio for hdmi port is weird and cant uninstall either. The driver itself installed fine. every thing else that comes with it did not work right. and now I am getting the fraps dx9 error. Not sure how to fix these issues.

Hi guys,
This is the best gaming laptop i have owned period! For the first 3 years it ran amazing!! Now big problems showing and this laptop is getting on my nerves for gaming and general usage. I need tips. Problems:
Its over heating way to much, I could cook some eggs. ( Temperature of my laptop is decided by the weather out side )
My battery wont last more then few mins. Just 3-4 weeks back it use to last for at least 50 mins.
Recently again, I lag a lot of mw2 which back then i got run very smoothly with no lag ever.
Laptop get super hot and can shut down whenever it feels like. Never shuts down during games, Just when browsing the net or watching videos.
I really need some help -
The battery could be one of the cells is folding. If this is the case replacement is about the only option.
The GPU will usually down clock to protectt itself rather than a shut down. So it sounds more like a CPU overheat. Does the CPU fan run at all and with hardware monitor what CPU/TSZ temps are you seeing? -
Also check if you need a clean up and maybe put a new paste. Since I am having the same problem with mine.
-
-
The side exhaust fan is the GPU and the rear is the CPU. Eith can be found on ebay. If it is the GPU fan get the P79 version if the CPU fan they seem to be generic.
-
Added Spec Ops: The Line.
-

-
I will be overlooking it since it's a poor console port. However, Steam has Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 on sale for $2.49.
-
Added Sleeping Dogs. It is better than GTA IV in terms of story and characters. It is a must play game! Beautiful and extremely enjoyable.
-
Can you do a test with "Tera Online" If you ever get the chance, It's free to play (trial version)
Thanks. -
for this games, are you guys all using the stock wireless card? or is it possible to upgrade to bigfoot killer 1102 or 1103 or Intel Ultimate N 633ANHMW without any problems? just remove the old and replace with new one? my wireless card it crapping out as it connects to the internet, but when i check my emails, it states not connected to the internet and i can't open emails and serf the web at all. I was wondering if you guys have upgraded wireless cards or not.
-
While not a gamer and it is off topic I still use the stock card. If it is connected to the internet but you can't connect the browser etc. then you have to fix the browsers and emails connection settings..................
-
Borderlands 2 added.
-
HI all: If any of you guys are playing black ops 2, can you please tell me what FPS you guys are playing at, and what resolutions.
-
Added Mark of the Ninja.

Bumping this thread for visibility.

Can't game anymore on my FX, but it's still gets daily use as a media player/htpc.
-
How much has the Samsung SSD upgrade affected your performance? Does your system boot in seconds?
-
does anybody here have the gateway bios pack posted by iata, or more specifically the 94.31 bios itself? i have spent tens of hours scouring the net but all d/l links are broken
-
I realize our Gateway FX's are pretty old by gaming standards, I was wondering if anyone has given TitanFall a shot?
If it can run it truly is a testament to how robust these FX's are. -
minimum requirement is a C2D 2.4GHz. The GPU is for a 8800 NVidia. So the GPU is fine for minimum but the CPU would need upgrading from the 2.26 GHz. Those with a P79xx may have better luck as the GPU is good for another 15-20% performance.
-
The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead Season Two can be played at max settings at 1080p. Also played Enslaved: Odyssey to the West at max settings. Laptop is still going strong! The SSD upgrade shortened my Windows 8.1 boot time to 10 seconds!
-
What aabout the newest WOlfenstein the NEW order. On my 7805 it is completely Unplayable. 3fps.
-
I wish you good luck on AAA games that were released late 2013 and later. It's impossible unless the games are based on previously used engines like Borderlands 2 and the Civilization V expansions. Gateway FX laptops have pretty much hit the wall mid 2013 (speaking from experience). Bioshock Infinite was laughably impossible to play at most resolutions at high/ultra settings.
