Hello everyone. I've had my FX P-7805u for six months now and I want to replace the DVD Drive. The question I have is if I am limited to the stock model Optiarc DVD RW AD-7583S or can I buy a similar drive off ebay?

well it's got a SATA connection so it will definitely work based on 2 assumptions:-

1). It's of the same dimensions as the stock DVD drive otherwise it wont fit into the slot for obvious reasons!

2). Bezel replacement might be tricky if the Sony bezel slots are incompatible with the tabs on the p7805u faceplate.

Why not go for a Blu-ray drive; I got myself a HL-CT10N. Works great!.

I second the BD drive as there is not much difference in price vs a regular drive. The CT10N has worked fine in my FX7811.

Do you have a picture of the drive installed? I would love to see how it looks..

I also wonder if the face can be changed with the drive we have???

No pics of the drive installed but looks just like the stock drive. Stock faceplate snaps on the CT10N no issues. Would be Sunday when the misses gets back with the camera before I could get you a pic.

Took the old stock drive and put it in one of these. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=BLK-USBEXT-NBCD-SATA&cat=CSE

I upgraded to a BD drive, works great CT10N, you just need a good program to use it.
