The point was that the picture is actually of a 7900 series and that it has the standard US Enter key.

one more question... since it has 4 GB DDR3, and the capacity of the motherboard is 4 GB RAM, is there a posibillity that updating the MB drivers or BIOS so that it can take more RAM... just asking for future reference, when 4 GB RAM, becomes too less to handle new software...

these machines can already take up to 8GB of ram and unless you heavy photoshop or CAD you wont need it
(just saying that if its just for gaming 4GB is just fine) ^^

Where have you seen the 4GB limit spec?

I have to agree. 4GB on my desktop gets me by just fine right now even with Photoshopping multiple large images (highest resolution on my Nikon D40)

ok, nice to know that 4 GB is enough.. allthough, i need to know something...
The laptop came in, i have it here now, but i didn't get the windows Vista CD, or the driver CD-s... and so I'm wondering, IS THAT NORMAL??? It was shipped by Direct Dial...
    thx
P.S. the laptop looks pretty good so far, but the missing CDs are a major turn-off...

That is normal, you have to create your own DVD's for the recovery and applications.

Yeah, nobody ships recovery disks anymore. HP charges $19 for them. Dell charges $50, I think. However, everything you need is already on the machine to burn them yourself unless you somehow got a machine without a burner.

If it's anything like the restore disk utility on Acer Aspire laptops, which is possible since Acer owns Gateway, then there should be an option to make a factory restore set. I did that for my sister's Acer Aspire 6930. It also gives you an option to back the machine up in its current state in the Acer software.

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten my hands on a current Gateway laptop to have first hand knowledge.

    sorry. sager 8662 > fx p-79xx.

you can argue all you want about screen resolutions being too small--but those who voice that sentiment are simply too stubborn/stupid to figure out how to increase font sizes & icon sizes. i prefer as much screen retail as possible. imho, any 17" laptop being offered with a wsxga (not wsxga+) or smaller screen is a slap in the face of anyone buying it. with the technology currently available (cough, iphone cough) we should be seeing 17/18" laptops with wqxga screens. instead, we're usually lucky to find affordable ones that offer wuxga. hell, i'd be using a 14" if they were made with wuxga screens.

there are zero specs on the p79xx series that are superior to the available specs on the 8662. the price is similar (even the lower rez wsxga+ screen is still better than the one on the p79xx). and of course, 15.4" weighs less & uses less energy.

gateway's p68xx & p7811/01 were spot on for the offering. they're slipping. less offered for more $$$. no thanks.

I'm sorry but 15.4'' compared to 17'' is not something u should compare to. find something in same size, then u can recommend it being better bang for the buck. 15.4 is so small I wouldn't even consider it, ty have a nice day.

i actually move my laptop. frequently. usually 2x per day, every day.

17" isn't worth the weight or size for being lugged around--unless it's a desktop replacement. given everything else equal between 2 laptops--the smaller size wins (especially since size reduction usually = cost increase for identical components).

the gateway p7xxx series are NOT desktop replacements

Well isnt that wonderful that the world is set up for different people.

The sager is a very good laptop, and I'm glad you're happy with your purchase. But it isnt the end all be all of laptops and sometimes people want something else. ;)

My P-7805u is without a doubt a DTR. I personally found it just too much of a pain to lug it around and use as a laptop. I picked up a LT-3103u and it is the perfect size for all around the house use. I am finally freed from my desk.

Now for Acer/Gateway to get an su9400 or better in the netbokks & I'll be set there. I still willl one day get one of these P-79xx's or equivelant so that my DTR can be quad core................

actually my 6860 is DTR for me. 17'' size is perfect, that's the size I wanted. If I would want 15.4'' I would look again, but in 17'' departament this is the notebook to talk about. If I would look for 15.4 I wouldn't even b in this specific thread. and I'm sure 90% have size in mind first and then they look for specifics.

I need some help it seems. I'm currently running 186.42 drivers found in the graphics discussion section of this site, but I've noticed nvidia has newer drivers up now. It doesnt seem to want to update however cause it dun recognize my laptop's hardware, and Gateway still has to old 17X.XX drivers on their support page. What's up with that?

If you want to update then you might have to just do it manually. Its not hard iaTa gave a step by step guide up at the top of the sub forum

    says you :p
I actually havent tried them, i'll have to give them a whirl in a few days to see if i can break my record or if they are more stable than the 190's

Gateway has got to stop ____ out laptops with 1440 x 900 resolution. Anyone who has a previous FX with a higher res will be reluctant to upgrade due to the screen.

    Three other gripes:
Gateway- steal Toshiba Satellite's speakers and install them in the FX. Also, change the looks of each generation a LITTLE. The same design has been used for too long. I know it's easy to switch hardware in and out of a single chassis, but a little change never hurts anyone. Finally, a button to turn off the LCD screen would be schweet

Edit: I saw they put a little something new on the FX--nice.
