I woke up today and took my laptop out of sleep mode and found that the GPU max temp says 255°C (491°F) with CPUID Hardware Monitor... I can't imagine that this is correct as the laptop probably wouldn't have survived such extreme heat. The night before, I was playing Combat Arms at 1400x1050 for a few hours and didn't have any problems except when it black screened and froze on me with a looping sound so I had to restart.

I took the laptop apart 3 weeks ago and cleaned out all the fans and vents and reapplied ICD7 to the CPU, Northbridge, GPU and the GPU memory chips. Also I am using a Zalman NC-2000 cooler that I also cleaned out at the same time.

I would like to know if this temp is something to worry about or if it is just an error.

Here's a picture of the CPUID temp readings.

Your temps from the screen shot are fine excluding the 255°C. Concerning the 255°C temp, it was either an error or the sensor may be having issues... At 255°C, the solder would have melted and your chip would have been cooked. =)

I'd have a guess at a temperature error too, 255°C sounds like the maximum that you would get with an 8 bit temperature reading maxed out, just a guess thought, if it was at 255°C your GPU would be sliding about in your laptop :)

I have to admit I laughed pretty hard when I first read this title.

If your GPU reached 255C, you wouldn't be using it right now, and your house (including you) would probably be a big pile of ash.

Lol, but seriously, it was an error. Chill :)

Maybe you should update CPU_ID as it really should only have one video temp.

IIRC that same thing happened to my 9800m GS when I left hwmonitor running and went into standby mode, as soon as I came out of standby, it would show 255.

Then why are they showing different temps?

You're probably right though. I just wish things were different. :)
