I've owned this laptop for 2 years now have had issues with it since i got it. The issues started with overheating. i used rivatuner to force max 3d and that fixxed it. Recently it started over heating again. i think the fan is out not sure. i've cleaned it out. the temps are 70C not in game and in game it pushes to 110C. is there a way to see if the fan went out. when i fixxed it with rivatuner i got a blue screen from time to time saying theres a issue with windows vista. i have had nothing but headaches so far with this laptop. i have a Gateway FX p7805u Nvidia GEFORCE 9800M GTS CUDA 1GB windows vista 64 intel core2 duo CPU [email protected],

When you cleaned out the fan, did you blow any air inside the heatsink fins on the left side of the laptop? Can you audibly hear the fan running? (That fan in particular is not really quiet). t's possible if you blew air into the laptop from the vent on the left side of the machine that you blew a lot of dust into the fan exhaust and jammed it up. You should be able to visibly see the fan as well from the bottom of the laptop. Look under there and see if it's moving.
It's best with these laptops to open them up and remove the heatsink from the board. You may want to consider this anyway, considering your temps. You have a lot of potential issues, but most of them are so cheap to address, I would address them all right up front...
Remove the GPU heatsink, clean it thoroughly, use alcohol to remove old (and likely failed) thermal compound, repaste your GPU and apply paste to all the GPU memory. 'd also go ahead and repaste your CPU/Northbridge too.
First place I'd be looking though is at possible interference keeping the fan from spinning freely.
