    Hey there..

My Gateway FX laptop does not receive any power, also the left USB ports dont work after I took apart my laptop for cleaning and applying cooling paste to the CPU and CPU.

I am not the best with laptops, but azrickster’s disassembly guide was very useful and I thought I had done everything right.

I have now taken my laptop apart and put it back together 3 times now, but I still have the same issue.

I believe there is a problem with the power/USB section talking to the MB, but the only connections I can see are the big white plug (which is plugged in) and a smaller black cable (also plugged in).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix my problem? Or has someone else had a similar problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks :D :D

    Hi Robokomodo...

I am experiencing the exact same side effect after disassembly and reassembly. The laptop powered on and worked fantastic on the battery but it will just not receive power from the AC adaptor. I have tried removing the battery and power cord and then holding the power button down for 30seconds or so. ( This was suggested at the gateway website). This did not help unfortunately.

As a matter of fact if you look at the LED's on the front of the laptop, they only light up when the laptop is running off the battery and they fail to light up like they did previously when connected to the ac adaptor.

I am absolutely stumped and any help here would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    sagaris

    Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I fixed the problem =D. The problem was that the psu pcb was not properly connected to the motherboard. It's all working great now :).

    Thanks,
    sagaris

I unfortunately did not have a chance to take a picture of the connector but it is basically a different PCB board altogether that seems to make contact with the main MB via a strange metal connector/contact. It is positioned next to the GPU fan and right under the power button. I hope that helps some :).
