Well, after upgrading to the t9500 a couple of days ago and finding great performance, and great temperatures, i went to turn it on today and found that it will not power up with or without the battery and the power cable plugged in and out. I'm positive it wasnt the processor as it was running stable for 2 days prior to this with low temps. I never dropped it or got it wet either, so i'm not sure if I somehow got a surge or what happened. (although i doubt that happened either because the ac adapter works fine and there is no aparent damage inside the laptop.) Maybe the mobo died? Anyone have any ideas as to what may have happened/ what i can do to somehow get the thing to power up? Anything would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

remove your cpu remove your ram try power it up.
install old cpu try power up.
install one stick of ram try power up.
    * skip if already boot * install second stick of ram (remove the other first) try power up

by now you should be good (hopefully)
you can also try disconnecting the hdd in the first step but usually not needed.
reinstall all ram and try reinstalling the new cpu.

hope your notebook is up and running.

    VERY IMPORTANT
disconnect the power and the battery before doing any of the above.

royk50 has it down, your pretty much going to have to test the componets until you find whats going on.

I hope you can get the t9500 up and running! Good luck

Thats why i dont put in the x9000 processor. I know the laptop can run it, but the power supplies are already maxed out it seems and i dont want to overload the poor thing. That 9 extra watts scares me... i wish we had a larger power block we could use

Anyone know if the higher dollar FX line uses a larger powerblock we might could upgrade to?

Yea, I'm contemplating an order as well. Assuming it has the correct tip, this may just be what the doctor ordered. And even if not, cutting and splicing, as Kamin said, would do the trick.

EDIT: Wow. $28.95 new from an Amazon user. Even if it turns out to be junk, for $29.00 its almost worth it.

Ok. I pulled the trigger. I opted for 2-6 day shipping so I'll let everyone know the skinny on it when I get it. $38.41 with expedited shipping. If this thing works like its advertised to,this could quite possibly be the steal of the year.

No problem. I'll do some tests with a multimeter along with the laptop test when I get it. :)

Well, i did all the troubleshooting options given to no avail. I guess the motherboard or something died. I'm going to send the computer into gateway and hopefully they can fix the issue. Hopefully the processor wasn't the cause..although im guessing it wasn't because it ran at only 42 degrees celcius idling and didn't seem to put out a ton of heat. Btw, nice find on the psu i think i might get one.

Hey, another quick question, do you guys think that gateway will notice that I might have taken the old processor out considering i used arctic ceramique instead of the silver paste they used?

Sorry it didnt work... gateway should be able to fix it under warrenty pretty easily. It might just be a circuit that was printed a tenth of a nanometer off and slowly burned out... electronics are weird that way sometimes.

As to the CPU just remember to install the original back in... i doubt they would notice the diffrence in goop but they might. You might try getting some dirt cheap stuf that matches a bit better. Then no questions asked :D

    @dook
Thanks for taking the blow for everyone. Let us know if it works out well, cause if so "It shall be mine!" (in best evil overlord voice)

Great news fellas! It works and is totally silent! It includes 3 tips(a smaller one similar to this and the typical Dell center pin tip), one of which is a match for the Gateway(albeit a bit long) and is powering it sans battery as I type this. There is absolutely NO noise and is powering the laptop just fine with both Orthos and TAT and it's barely warm to the touch.

The unit is manufactured by LiteOn Corp. which are known to make very reliable products. The power cable is the standard 3 prong desktop PC type and the included one is a 3 footer. The output cable is nice and thick and appears to be of very good quality. In fact so much so, it creates the only negative I have found with the product. Right where the cable meets the adapter plug, there's a big filter thats probably around 40 grams or so. Since the adapter plugs into the laptop at a 90 degree angle(which is good), the weight causes the adapted to spin a bit. Nothing to be alarmed about, but just thought I should point it out. Also there is still a bit of the metal tip showing once the adapter is connected to the laptop, again, nothing to be alarmed about, you just have to be a bit more careful not to put pressure on it.

The unit is rated for 19volts output at 9.5 amps. A quick PIE calculation adds up to 180.5 watts. I tested the unit with a multimeter and it is putting out a constant 19 volts as advertised. I rigged up a quick jumper to measure current draw, and with the processor running at full steam and the dvdrom spinning fast enough to play a DVD, the laptop was only pulling about 6 amps, well within safe limits. I would also like to point out that 6 amps is dangerously close to the capability of the factory PS which is only rated at 6.3amps.

So far, this is an AWESOME power supply for our thirsty Gateways. It is totally silent and with the exception of a small amount of "play" where it connects to the laptop, has no negatives that I can see. As it stands right now, I highly recommend picking one up! I'll report back once it sees more use this week. I got mine from an Amazon seller for $39 shipped to my door and got it in 3 days.

    Its so.... big :p

As cumbersome as our powerblock is, and this thing dwarfs it. sweet :)

Yeah gonna have to pick me up one of those once i get home.

Thanks for the review and let us know if anything causes hickups with the new powerblock.

Just a quick mid-week update. The new PS is running just fine! I have noticed that the tip, being a bit longer, tends to come out more easily than the factory one. This is also a bit compounded by the cable being pretty stout. However, that being said, I game on my bed and move around quite a bit, so this is probably not a big concern for those who compute on their desk, etc.

OK, peoplez. Its been a week and with the exception of one thing, I still recommend this big-ass power supply.

The only caveat I have found, is due to the bulky cable and the fact the connector pin is a bit long, if the laptop is moved about, the cable tends to come out. The only way I can see this as a problem is if youre like me and use your laptop while on the bed, sofa, etc and move around a lot. Otherwise, you're golden.

I have yet to hear one single peep out of this thing and it's still chuggin along like it did on day one. I have seen no performance improvements (I didnt really expect to), nor any degradation(again, I didnt expect to). All in all, this is just a solid power supply.
