    Hey guys,

    I'm extremely interested in the ID49C08u for college next year; it's up there with the Envy 14 and MBP 13 on my list. However, I can't find it anywhere online for sale.

    Does anyone know a date of release, and which online store would likely be the first to carry it? Thanks!

    I'm surprised this laptop isn't available to you seeing as you live in the United States.

    I got the ID49C01H for $659.99 canadian dollars at Futureshop (regular 749.99 but I got an open box one which still had all the plastic still on it)

    Gateway 14" Intel Core i3 Laptop (ID49C01H) - Silver - Future Shop

    I'm pretty sure the ID49C01h is a Canada only model, however it isn't listed anywhere on the gateway website, has the 330M GT (optimus of course), and a 640gb HDD (wd scorpio blue) as well as the i3 350M. This configuration doesn't seem to exist anywhere else and is by far the best bang for your buck (this machine gets you a ridiculous amount of capability for the money)

    The only thing is the touchpad is kind of finicky and sometimes its easy to not click it hard enough and it doesn't register your click even though you obviously clicked it. Get a mouse, or live with double tapping the touchpad rather than using the buttons.

    If there is anything you want to ask me about the ID49C let me know.

    I saw this laptop on the future shop website as well and I was wondering whether you had any trouble running games and if its temperature went up significantly when playing.

    Using Gateway's website, it would seem to indicate that it is available at select Fry's locations, including one near where I live. I plan on checking it out sometime in the near future, as I am currently looking for a thin and light with switchable graphics, and this particular model seems to fit the bill.

    As a matter of fact I am having issues playing certain games. Fallout 3 and GTA 4 currently don't run, because of an issue with the Optimus driver. All Optimus equipped notebooks with outdated (189.69) drivers have issues playing these games.

    So why not update the driver to fix the problem?

    You cant. Whenever I try to update my drivers, the GPU isn't detected and the installer closes. Both ASUS and Dell (Alienware M11xR2 w/ optimus) had to release custom drivers that support their product, however, of course Gateway hasn't released their own driver yet.

    I might be returning my ID49C to the store.

    Hey, were you ever able to update your drivers? Also, after finding a Gateway employee's email address in a review, I emailed the lady and found out the ID49 with the 330M will come out in Sept. But poinltess if Gateway never releases drivers. Looks like I might be getting an Envy and dealing with the cpu whine.

    @rbl_posse

    Why not just used the most recent compatible driver with a modified .inf file? That's what a lot of M11x users have been doing. The only problems you'll have is if the game uses PunkBuster, which will have issues with newer drivers and kick you. All the games that I've played that use PB don't have an issue with the old drivers though, but it is a pain in the to roll back to play them.

    Are there any alternative touchpad drivers for the Gateway ID49C08u? I love most of the features, but the touchpad could use some help.
