Hello, i just recently bought a new Gateway ID79C series laptop and hope someone can help me, as stated in the title this laptop is equipped with an open bay for a secondary hdd, i bought a hdd to occupy this bay but when i pulled the hdd cover off i noticed the hdd connector is attached to the mainboard in a vertical position NOT a horizontal position which makes it impossible to install the 2nd hdd, it's a regular sata connector just like the one in my primary hdd bay but its vertical positioning prevents installation of the hdd.

hopefully i'm explaining this well enough to understand, i don't have a digital cam or i'd post pics, but to elaborate further... IF i could plug in the 2nd hdd it would be at a 90 degree angle to the laptop and not lie horizontally within the hdd bay so hopefully this paints a better visual, i've seen sata adaptors/connectors online but none address the situation i have here, if Gateway had just turned this connector 90 degrees and attached it in a horizontal position this would be a simple plug-n-play procedure.

I contacted Gateway support on this matter but their useless reply to me was "I understand that you require an adapter to connect the secondary hard drive bay. We are sorry to inform that Gateway does not provide any adapter to connect the secondary hard drive bay with the computer. We would suggest you please contact any local store to purchase the same."

I've exhaustively researched this topic online and there's simply no hdd adapter available for this ID series laptop, has anyone else experienced this? the ID series just came out a few months ago, is that why these parts are not yet available? thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this matter.

p.s. sorry for the long winded post, just trying to give a complete explanation.

Those are the only adaptors i too have come across but they're different than what my hdd would require were something available, i've come to the conclusion that for whatever reason Gateway just doesn't want a secondary hdd added in this particular laptop (at least not without purchasing a "kit" that is not yet available), i even asked this question in the Acer forum (Gateways parent company) and can't get a definitive answer... http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/527700-acer-gateway-secondary-hdd-issue.html

I finally located the needed hdd parts thanks to the help of a fellow member (AcerInsider)

Anyone with a Gateway ID79C wanting to utilize the 2nd hdd bay will require the following parts...

    33.PUM07.003 hdd bracket
    20.PUM07.001 dip housing (connecter)
    42.PUM07.004 hdd cover

The parts are available through Gateway for $7.22 ea.
