3DMark06 results are in... 249 3DMarks. CPU Score of 457. I'll run the benchmark on my NC10 tomorrow - but it's painful to watch on such a slow machine.

For comparison, apparently an EEE 1005HA gets 127 3DMarks.

Also, the test ran at 1280x768 with no way for me to change it.

Is the RAM upgradeable to 4 gb ?

Has anyone tried overclocking with Windows 7 ?

and if so can we get some benchmarks w/ Windows 7 + overclocking ?

And it didn't overheat? Or anything? weird.....

Edit: I read the post, he has to underclock and undervolt. Still pretty cool though, dual core in a netbook :D

OK, how did you do that? I downloaded SetFSB 2.2 and tried putting in the parameters but it gave me Error 19 when I selected ICS932S421BGLF.

Got to play a little with one at BB. For what it is I am amazed. Not quite enough yet but then..........

I might be a covert if we can Set FSB to 250 and run 1.5 GHz. My only two other requirements would be a RED one and Windows 7, The RC would be fine for now. I'd still keep the P-7805 but it would mainly then sit home............

K just bought the Gateway LT3103u yesterday from Best Buy. I tried installing the 64 bit version of windows 7, no luck, the 32 bit version installs just fine. I notice that the 32 bit version of vista comes pre loaded on the Gateway. The Gateway LT3103u has a 64 bit processor correct ? Why am I having issues installing the 64 bit version.

Not sure why, but if I remember that was one of the listed criteria's bubt I can't seem to find that page again............

Ooops I found it but it is 1gig for the 32 bit and 2gig for the 64bit...... Once you add features of Ultimate this may go up too...............

Right... 64-bit OS's can address more than 4 gigs, but they don't NEED it.

Actually they can address alot more. The shouldn't need more than the 1 the 32 bit needs but M$ wants 2 for the base 64bit OS version. Again more M$ BS...........

I saw in another forum someone stating they had the 64bit RC running on this. Other than gaming this really holds some promise.......

This looks to be the first affordable netbook that offeres a full featured system. albeit no speed demon there is a capability of using just about any program you would use on a normal laptop or desktop.

Now it seems you are the only success here with SetFSB as of yet. The question here is even with the overclock will this now handle Flash Video? My understanding is there is yet to be a netbook that can handle this format.....

No luck with SetFSB, Flash Video or both? I love my P-7805u but portability just plain stinks. Battery life in balalnced with battery is nice, 3 hours plus of real life usage. 5 hours plus and ultra portable sounds great though.

I'd also like to create a few programs for personal use. Since I can get Windows 7 in here I should have no problems with future compatability. I am still hedging but this looks to be the best one out there right now in an affordable cost structure............

Intel just added 1366x768 screens to the hardware that it is ok to use N270 Atom with, but not 11" screens... yet. If you want to wait, you might see bigger screens with Atom processors.

I understand that... but there isnt an overclock on the planet that can get anything resembling power out of a netbook.

Its like trying to supe up a 3 cylinder engine. You might be able to, but in the end all you've made is a fault prone engine and 6 horse power.

I'm just wondering if theres something i'm missing

Well over clocking netbooks can sometimes be useful with Youtube. Youtube HQ may not play with N270 for example, but with overclock it can.

I found it quite useful on Acer 751 that had Z520 running at 1.24GHz.

I'm interested in knowing how this netbook handles Silverlight Video.

Couldnt find a netbook section so....I'll try here. I got a great deal on a Dell IM102895 at wally world was $498 (got it brand new and sealed for $298), caveats, slightly low res screen in comparioson to others, would love the rare 13x screens, but they seem hard to find and mores costly, its got the 1.3 GHZ atom CPU, would the 1.6 make a noriceable difference? The big kicker is the ram....I know you can take the whole thing apart and put 2 GB in, but thats not something i find exciting or fun in my present condion (really bad back and in and out of hospitals all the time) I've also heard that some models have the ram soldered to the board...meaning you take it apart for nothing.

Performance wise I was I was in love at first, but now I have to really dumb things down due to the 1GB ram, also dont like the topuchpad very much, I use a mouse when I can.

Local supplies are thin in my price range, Acers seen the most common, are they any good? easy ram upgrade etc?

Want to keep it around $300 .....any ideas or user comments greatly appreiceated, Thanks

Again improtant aspects, are ram capacity, nice screen, portability secondary long battery life little frills etc

    M

Also are their new low cost siginificantly better netbooks coming soon? DC cpu's, faster ram etc? That wouldnt make me hold off, cause i need something now (hospital stays and such) but at this price, I could easily "gift" what I have now and upgrade many months down the road.

One more comment....I love the keyboard on the dell....its so easy to type on, even more so than my desktop and worlds above any laptop I've hap from large 15" models to 12".....props to dell in that regard, the acer i tried was a hair more frisrtating than my xps m1210, and it just had a 8 GB SS drive, I'm not a big fan of those yet, I'll trade a few seconds of my life for high capacity and longer life/re;iability.

I had already tried the clock generator he mentioned with no success. That PLL ID is the one for the Acer 751. I tried every PLL ID setfsb offers and some of them seemed to almost work (meaning they did SOMEthing, since they'd crash the machine instantly), but none of them would alter the FSB in a usable fashion.

I ended up getting an HP DV2 for $449 from Staples on a price match from Nebraska Furniture Mart here in Kansas City.

just picked one up at bestbuy. I have used a aspire one with the 10" led screen and one thing that bugged me was the 1024x600 resoution and the small keyboard.

As I like to play AOE on a plane to pass the time and yes even flight simulator 2004 can run on this net book, it was slow on the aspire.

The LT3101 Gateway has the right size screen and keyboard, the battery life during normal use is about 4-4 1/2 hours with wifi on and screen 2 levels down from high. what impresses me is the fact that this runs faster than the aspire and is more responsive even with Vista basic.

I do wish the battery charged faster and lasted longer but when i look at an excel spread sheet or word document or a correctly displayed web page i think the trade-offs are acceptable

Wow, that's what you came up with? How about:

Discrete video card, able to do FULL HD and actually game... from some user reviews I've been hearing the X1270 on the Gateway actually performs worse than the GMA 950... ouch
    4gb Ram vs 2gb, I'll take 4
Better resolution IMO, 1280x800 vs 1366x768
    External DVD-RW
    Wireless-N
    Much more powerful processor

Maybe there's a reason you have a big red spot next to your name when everyone else has greens?

Edit: Oh yeah, Vista HP vs Vista Basic.

How is $429 a hundred dollars more than $399?

Citizen86, don't forget it's eligible for the Win7 upgrade since it comes with Home Premium 64-Bit.

what does it matter which version of vista it has on it, if your gonna wipe it clean for windows 7 anyway.

where do you see a price of $429 for this?

4gb and 2gb of ram will make no difference with old processor technology in each machine

who games on a 12 inch laptop?

obviosly the hp is better equipped but for on the go the gateway is better

Vista home premium gets a free upgrade to Win7, Vista Basic does not.
The link above shows $480 minus $50 mail in rebate = $430
How do you figure 4gb won't make a difference? Do you really have no idea how Vista/Windows 7 works?
I game on my 9" Aspire One once in a while... why not? Just because you don't doesn't mean nobody does
Why is the Gateway better on the go? Barely more battery life and a fractionally bit lighter?

just read the reviews on the dv12, battery life and heat on the machine are horrible, those are 2 no-nos for an "ultraportable"

and about the red spot in my name....do you think i honestly care? were here to give opinions, not to win rep power awards

but thats the kinda kid you are

im saying if your gonna spend $600 on something like that you might as well just spend the extra $200 for a core2duo etc.

4gb of ram to help "multitasking" is just gonna even itself out with a 1.6 ghz processor...........

at $430 its obviosly a better deal then the gateway, but i thought the website said 480 INCLUDING the mail in

I'm saying you have made 37 posts and already have caused trouble. Good job trying to make another jab though.

The review on this website showed under 100F, how is that horrid? Plus the battery stayed on over 4 hours, once again, horrid? The gateway doesn't get more than 5, so where are you getting these "horrid" opinions from?

And 4gb to help "multitasking" shows you really don't know how Vista/Win7 work.

And this has gone way off topic. This thread is about the Gateway.
