Once again, the thread title says it all. Just got a m-151x, and I have a spare T-5550, and a spare x7800 lying around. I WANT to use the x7800 :) --but with the 44w TDP I'm not sure if it will work

How could I find this info out? or has anyone tried successfully? (did a search to no results???)

    Thanks in advance.

    Edit

...or if this will not work which chip should I try and trade for, t8400, t9300?? Thanks again :)

44W TDP tells me the notebook is not designed to handle the heat output. It'll cook in due time.

Ah thank you sir for your quick reply-- the more I think about it I will be able to sleep better off at night if I stick with something with a lower tdp. I am going to post this proc in the wanted section I believe-

    :)

44W TDP is rather high, especially for a 15.4. As for which processor to trade for, go for the T9300 or T8300. Note that the T8400 will not work in your M152XL. It's a Montevina chip.

Yes I have indeed decided to sell these chips in the wanted section and pick up one that is more compatible.

    thanks!

Wait, ive been a little slow lately so bear with me-- What do ya'll think about installing this chip, underclocking it to 2.4ghz and undervolting it? Think that I could work around the original tdp of 44w of this proc?

    thanks-

    -edit-

that way I would not have to go through the hassle of selling or trading for a replacement :)

all you can do is try and undervolting will bring down the heat quite abit and hopefully your powersupply can handle the load. if it were me it would be in there already :).

ahhhhhh im game. I cant walk away from a tech challenge. I just clock this baby to 3.4 ghz and toast some marshmellows on the fire!!! haha (jk)

Bring it on! ill post the results for any future crazy ppl with the m-151x!!!

Kind of off topic, but the day after I bought this lappie (on sunday) the gateway site now says its out of stock and being replaced with a new model. Ya'll think its worth complaining/talking to a sales rep about an upgrade to new system--or not a chance in h#ll
