I upgraded my laptop from Vista to XP Pro and have everything running great with one exception. The sound does not work and I cannot find a driver that functions under XP at all. I have tried many different driver sets from Dell, Gateway, and a few from Intel but have had no luck at all.

Has anyone else switched to XP on this laptop and gotten sound working?

The Hardware ID for the sound device is

    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_107B0381

Any help with this would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

I have resolved this issue, i was googeling around and got the gateway page that had HD Audio drivers for older laptops. by trial and error i found an older machine with the same hardware running XP(looking through gateways messs of drivers). I now have sound with my m-1625 laptop!

Now i would just like to be able to control my brightness... i managed to find processor managing soft. called speed switch so my batt last more than an hour in xp. Before speedswitchxp works you have to install an amd proccessor driver from AMD.

I dont know what download it was named...because i immediately renamed it as my xp audio drivers so i would not confuse it with the other drivers i had downloaded.

So...it is Attached as an executable zip, as i downloaded it from gateway.

    cheers!

    P.S.
and if you can help me with dimming/brightening my screen it would be much appreciated!

OMG! Thank you so very much! It works!

I only figured out that I had a dim problem two nights ago as I hadn't found a reason to dim it. Have you loaded the catalyst control panel off amd.com? It might have something to do with the dimmer. I only loaded the basic drivers.

Just tried doing this, didn't seem to work.

No clue as to why that Fn key decides not to work but others do.

sweet! if those do not work out for you, i still have all the drivers i used.

about the pci drivers....have you updated XP to sp3? When i did so, alot of drivers were installed with (or after restart of) sp3. almost like extensive driver support come with sp3. im sure they are generic drivers....but the yellow marks of death are gone!

Is there any way I could get you to send me those drivers you found?

I search gateway.com and they only have vista drivers listed for this machine...I keep running into the same problem.

Can anyone help me out? I mostly need the ethernet drivers, as I currently have to use a usb card to get the drivers over there to even test if they work or not >.<

I can't even seem to find a list of what hardware is actually in this laptop, so I'm unable to search based on the devices.

    Help?!?

    Thanks!

Good luck getting any type of info on this site...unless you're a kid with a gaming laptop bragging about specs. This forum (gateway forum) is a big waste of bandwidth.

I'm trying to revert my computer back to xp and this will be my first time on my own so if anyone could I would love the help its the same m-1625 and i'm having my own trouble finding the drivers. Not sure if the drivers that were installed with vista will work with xp is why i'm having trouble.
