im not actually. gateway's website lists the M-6850FX as retail at bestbuy but no bestbuy except the ones in canada have it on their websites; i even called up the close ones to my house, they dont have it either.

I don't think US Best Buy's ever had the M-6850 FX. I'm pretty sure it's only been available here in Canada. I wonder why they only have it available up here though, it seems like it would sell a lot better if it was also available in the US.

Lakjin, are you from Canada? If so that would of made sense. I'm from USA and not smart enough to see what other countries are using.

Costco has a similar machine, except 4GB RAM, for same $899.

They had 3 at my local BB and I bought one of em! Its an awesome laptop for $899, however I just couldn't handle knowing a more powerful laptop was only $200 more, so I took it back and got the 6860. I'm indecisive like that.

or you could get a M-152XL, like i did for 899. A much stronger processor for the loss of 1 GB of RAM.

good choice imo. for 899, you can get better notebooks then the 6850. but for 1099...the 6860 is hard to beat with its 8800M GTS

I totally agree. The 152xl is a great machine for the price. I read somewhere that there is a problem with the clearcoat showing rainbows, have you run i into that problem? I am currently tasked with suggesting a laptop under a grand for a friend and was seriously looking at the 152.

Second that - forgot about the XL - MUCH better proc, same video, that's a Gateway direct machine, though, right? How are their returns and extended warranties? That would MAYBE be the only reason to get the 6851 at Costco.
    MAYBE. :)

1 year standard warranty. i think return is 15 days but w/ 15% restocking. . but my rep offered to let me try the machine for 3 days and if i didnt like it i could return it with no restocking fee. but i kept with it.

and as far as i know you can upgrade your extended warranty up until your intial 1 year is over.

Its a good laptop, thats for sure. That is as long as you accept that you're not going to be running much eye-candy on DX10 games such as Crysis. I had one for a couple of days before returning it for the 6850fx and if the 6850 wasn't on sale for such a good price, id probably still have it. Then again, I'm never satisfied. Best Buy returns knows me by first name. :)

i want to buy this model:
The laptop features a Core 2 Duo T5550 CPU, an ATI Radeon HD 2600 graphics chipset, 3GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and a DVD-R / RW / DVD-RAM optical drive. The other ones are the $849.99 M-1626 and $749.99 T-1628. The first features a 15.4-inch display, an AMD Turion TL-60 CPU, ATI Radeon HD x1270 graphics, 4GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and HDMI. The other comes with a 14.1-inch display, AMD CPU and ATI graphics chipset, 3GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and wireless and HDMI support. Gateway has dropped a new pen-based configuration called the C-142XL ($1,299.99) which comes with a Core 2 Duo T8300 CPU, ATI Radeon X2300 HD GPU, 3GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and a Wacom pen for input
i want to ask if someone has already one and is it a good choice?
    is gateway a good brand?
