Looks like a 0.05v difference for each multiplier.

I dunno if that is just an example, but ya gotta CHOOSE a profile in that screen....

But, anyways, I assume by "full load" you guys mean hammering with orthos or something, and on the M-6851 and this P-6860FX, I can drop the 11x multiplier to .9875v, and no problem. Matter of fact, been this way RIGHT NOW, using the Performance on Demand profile, since about 6pm EST (1:36am now) and that went through a 3 hour Steam session with my kids, plus the other 2-4 hours just surfing around...

Seems I got a bit over zealous and f@cked my boot sector trying to rearrange the files for faster boot times. Ended up having to do a fresh install which proved to be easy enough.

I did find running Orthos & Furmark a very good way to tax the CPU/GPU.

In the process of reinstalling the monitoring tools etc.

This is such an under-rated notebook. I really hope a Montevina update with a 3650 or 3670 is planned. I love mine.

After using a MacBook for a while, my 6864 feels like a chunk of ice. Even after a couple of hours of gaming the heat is less than the Apple just surfing. Bottom of my MacBook case was 55 degrees Celcius. Ouch!

So...I tried XP on the 6864. If anyone is thinking that gaming performance is better with XP, I'm getting contradictory results.

    XP - Vista

    DMC4 Benchmark (1280x800, High, No AA/AF)
    32.91 - 39.93
    23.87 - 30.19
    34.95 - 46.07
    22.94 - 27.37

    3DMark06 (Default Settings, 1280x800)
    3530 - 3644

That's right guys, gaming is better on Vista, which completely surprised me.

Does audio work? I tried getting XP x64 on my old 6831FX and it was a nightmare because of the HD Audio.

That sounds pretty serious! You don't want to burn your house down. Take it back or call Gateway support - make sure you say you think it might burn your place down.

Hissing seems a common replacement issue.

My charger will get warm but I have never heard a hissing or felt it was too hot to be a concern.

    Hi guys,
I'm new here (first post) and I don't mean to get off topic from the recent posts, but I'm considering buying the 6864FX or 6862 from Best Buy. Right now the 6864FX is $799 and the 6862 is $699. From the specs and from what's been said in this thread previously it seams the only difference is the HD. the 6864FX has a 200GB 7200rpm drive and the 6862 has a 250GB 5400rpm drive. Are there any other differences with the FX systems that I'm not aware of? Is the 7200rpm drive going to make any real world performance difference? And more importantly, Is the 6864FX worth $100 more than the 6862?

Please let me know your thougts.

    Thanks

    JP

i dont think so.. if u use for storage alot of stuff then stick with the 6862 other wise i see no reason to pay an extra 100, i myself got the 6864 becaue i dint know aobut the 6862 but i'm not complaining i like the 6864 style

At most we can hope for a 3650 in the next model which isn't much of an update from a 2600.
