Looks very recently released, and in stock.
Gateway M-6867 (Poor Man's M-6864FX), the replacement for the M-6851 (Poor Man's M-6850FX), it's updated, but it's NOT an MV refresh.
Brief Specs:
Core 2 Duo T5750
4GB RAM
320GB HDD
DVD-DL
15.4" 1280x800
ATI HD2600 512MB DDR3 - basically just a CPU+HD upgrade....

isnt the M8684fx for 849 at BB?
-
M-6864FX is $949 at BB, but includes MS Office 2007 Home and Student.
Wasn't saying it was the best deal, just saying it was out there...
There's normally a $100 difference between the M-FX, and it's non-FX equivalent, although I think the split is $50 this time around, at least between the MSRP's at gateway.com
For $50, mebbe the FX is the way to go, but most people say a 320GB 5400RPM drive is as fast as the 200GB 7200RPM drive in the FX. Both have 4GB RAM and T5750's. Although, the M-6867 DOES have factory BlueTooth and 802.11a/b/g/n, and the FX does NOT have BlueTooth, but same 802.11a/b/g/n
Hmm...interesting decision, huh? I think the free Office might clinch the deal, though, don't ya think?

Well maybe, but if you have a student in the family at all...the ultimate steal is a better value imo.
Then again if you buy from Newegg you will pay shipping, but maybe not taxes depending on where you live
At BB you wont pay shipping but definitely taxes.
So take your pick XD
TBH I would go with the non-FX if
1) I already had office (or I could get it via the ultimate steal deal or just use OO)
2) I didnt have to pay taxes on newegg (<- the big kicker)
Mainly because it has a bigger HDD, altho slower, and bluetooth. -
My wife is in college, so we can get that Ultimate Steal, which is better than Home and Office anyway.
Yeah - toss up, I figure. I dunno - for $50, might be cooler to have the FX graphics on the chassis
Lakjin: Found what you mentioned:
BB circular says laptop is $999, and there is a $150 savings=$850 SKU:8907043. Now, whether that is valid without software I guess is up to stores...
Ad Says: $999 Laptop + $149.99 software=$1149.98 -$150 laptop savings -$50 package deal = $949.98

Why not get a dv5t from HP dood? Newer tech; I bet you can get a decent one for around that similar price tag.
Check out the three ways to get discounts from HP i mentioned is this thread:

Honestly, I've always been partial to ATI. My first ATI card was an EGA Wonder 480 back in like 1988 or so, an a Turbo XT (giving my age away).
I went throught the 3dfx era (VooDoo 1 and 2) and then the Rage 128, 128Pro, Fury Maxx, and then the Radeon stages...
Besides, on the dv5t, the 9200M GS sucks, so there's the 9600M GT $200 tax, which is barely more than the 8600M GT, and you're up over $1100, at 2GB RAM+P8400, even WITH my wife's APP discount... not worth it, IMO.
Trying to hunt down a nice HD3650 machine, or mebbe hold out for a machine (non-boutique-overpriced-crap) with a 3850/3870.
But, as discussed elsewhere, I'm still considering the XPS M1530...
Waiting for Costco to refund me, and then I'll either make a decision to get the 1530, or hold out a few more months.
I will get, though, a TX2500z series machine for her in the next few months, and give the kids her C712US lappie - nice machine for $349 + $60 for 2GB RAM.

hehe i forget you told me that already.
you mind a 17 incher?

A bit too big if that 3650 was in the Studio 15, I woulda' bought it already!
Matter of fact, it I could handle a 17", I woulda' bought that P-6860FX on sale at BB, as that was a really good deal!
Thanks for thinking of me though.
Ideally, I't like to find:
ATI HD3650+256/512MB DDR3
14.1" preferred, but 15.4" OK (1680x1050/1440x900 minimum)
CPU: T5xxx
250GB
4GB RAM
802.11 a/b/g/n
BlueTooth 2.0+EDR
and for under $1000 ($999 would suffice)

Heya shark, if you can stretch the 1000 dollar limit, this looks like a nice setup.
-
Then go and buy warranty via squaretrade using the FIFTYOFF coupon. -
But, somehow, I get the impression that alot of Asus owners are not REALLY 100% satisfied with their machines. I'm not saying Asus is bad, because I don;t know that - I HAVE used MANY of their motherboards in the past, going back to the industry standard P2B dual P3 back in the 90's.
I just get the "feeling" most aren;t 100% satisfied - Costco has that F8Va for $1249.
I'm checking to see if they can do anything on that unit, to mebbe do a little "make up" for the totally goofed Gateway purchase. Although, except for the excessive/multiple debit card holds, it REALLY isn't Costco's fault that the machine got lost in transit...
@Lakjin: Man, I REALLY have this golden rule about not doing big-ticket-item purchases on fleaBay... I've been using eBay since about 1996 (when it was AuctionWeb), and it's one of those "fool me once, fool me twice" scenarios.
It would literally have to be a GOOD vendor, who would charge my card DIRECTLY, as PayPal is absolutely USELESS for protection.
We shall see - nothing is chiseled in stone yet...
