My laptop won't boot up. It has 512 meg ram, 3.0/800 FSB P4 CPU. I only get the power light, CPU fan spins, and the CD drive spins, nothing onsreen. I tried to reseat the RAM and the CPU. I replaced the thermal paste on the CPU. I hooked it up to an external monitor (same result (no video). What have I missed? It is a very nice laptop, I would like to get it up and running again. Do these laptops suffer from the video chip coming loose from the motherboard?

    Thanks

If you have access to the hard drive try reattaching/reseating that and recheck to make sure that the ram and heat sink are properly attached(snug fit).

Thanks guys, I have tried a new CPU, reseated everything, tried booting from the Windows CD, remelted the solder on the Video chip. Nothing worked, I am so frustrated with it I am going to buy a used motherboard off Ebay.

Have you tried booting w/ no RAM in the system, does the behavior change? (do you get any error code or beep code of some sort stating no ram?)

How about booting without the hard disk installed? Any error messages at this point? External monitor display anything?

If all else fails, go for the motherboard replacement.
