I'm considering upgrading the CPU from the T-series to the P-series.
As far as I recall the socket is the same. The P series are only 25W vs the T's that are 35W. I'm trying to bring the temps down to something more manageable as the current cpu, T9300, can get quite hot (yes, I've upgraded the cpu in the past, super easy on this model).
I was looking at either the P8800 or P9600 as they are reasonably priced.
Buying a new laptop is not an option at this time (I have an Asus G73).
This laptop is just for basic gaming and emergencies.
Has anyone ever attempted to upgrade a Txxx CPU to a Pxxx?

The T9300 uses the 800 MHz FSB while those other two CPUs use the 1066 MHz FSB so I don't believe they will be compatible on your board.
The TDP spec is just a rating. Actual power consumption depends on the speed you run your CPU at and also the voltage. Have you done any under volting? That can make a significant difference at full load or when gaming.
Try using ThrottleStop. It would also be a good idea to pull your laptop apart and clean up the heatsink and fan, redo the paste and make sure it is attached snugly to the CPU. Some designs don't apply enough pressure so heat transfer is poor. You might have to find a way to increase the contact force.
