My HD was failing, it was sent away under warranty and replaced with a Toshiba MK5059GSXP 500GB harddrive. They used my Restore CDs created when I bought the computer. This was Windows Vista. My Gateway Windows Upgrade to Windows 7 wouldn't work "Windows cannot be configured on this Computers Hardware". The computer went back. They managed to get Windows 7 on it after problems because the partition could not be created and install failed first. Now Windows cannot update, also Windows Problem shooting won't start, plus other problems. They say it's a windows issue? Any help would be appreciated. Chris

You could always reformat and re-install Win 7. But you need the Win 7 disk for that. If that doesn't work, then that drive may be faulty.

I have tried to run the Recovery CDs which hung up at 3% installed (someone told me this would also reformat the hard drive). Then I tried an OEM Windows Vista, and a full version of Windows Home Premium 7, none of which would complete installation. A shop in town here said the new Hard drive may not be backward compatible with the motherboard, another said the motherboard may need a driver for the hard drive.
