I own a MD7818u
Gateway Official Site: Gateway® MD7818u
Running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
I am having some battery issues. I have purchased 2 new batteries from 2 different manufactures. Both are 3rd party batteries.
When I put the new battery in, the battery light after about 2 minutes of charging turns red. At this point the battery will not charge. Windows shows Plugged in but not charging.
After searching...and searching...I found that most causes of battery issues are due to an older version of bios.
I download the newest bios (9930) from here..

When I try to flash the bios via the windows utility I receive the following error.

No matter what I try I can't flash the newest bios. I started trying to find a way to reset the bios to the default bios, and then try again to flash with the 9930 but I can't find anything. Many talk about moving the jumpers. I have the laptop apart and I can't find this jumper to save my life.

Any help would be great! I would love to get this bios updated. I am hoping this will fix my battery issues.

I am pretty sure as a general rule, the jumpers are right next to the cmos battery.

Dude, I'm not really an expert.
I happen to have an old fryed desktop mobo out right next to me.
The blue connectors that say 1CLRTC next to the battery are the jumpers I'm almost positive. Maybe that helps sorta for what you're looking for. Not sure what they look like in a laptop.
You would pull the blue cap off and put it on the other pins to reset your bios to factory settings, then move it back.
Not sure if this helps but I had a mobo right on the floor.Attached Files:

Oh yeah, laptop batteries look different. alot of times the are in a green or bright blue plastic casing, about the general size of a watch battery, with a little cord sticking out of it attached to the motherboard.
-
I see the CMOS battery with the cord going to the motherboard but I don't see any jumpers any where around it. Am I missing it?

Thank you very much for your help as well! -
I can't really help you out anymore. This is the first time I've ever opened a laptop just this week, and it really confuses me. I'm used to desktops. Here's some thoughts - - wouldn't it be a real drag if they put the jumpers on the other side of the board? I don't think they would. Second, that battery is what keeps the bios powered and alive even if the comnputer is off, so they would want to keep the jumpers and the battery right by where they store the bios (it takes more of the batteries electricity to move it a further distance). I would focus around there.

I even tried to contact gateway for some assistance with my issue and they want $99 to even help me since the laptop is out of warranty.
Thank you JoeyJon for your help. I appreciate the time.
Anyone else have any ideas. Thank you again. I am dead in the water without use of a battery
