Before I purchased this Gateway I previously owned a HP Pavilion dv6448se, Due to damage that the warranty wouldnt cover I was forced to purchase another computer (Gateway ML3109)

Now for the money spent I thought it was a decent computer, Till I started really looking into things. I became worry about the 512 ram and the 80gb hard drive, not to mention the graphics card that this computer comes with.

Now the guys at "Geek Squad" said that I could transfer my 3gb Ram, Hard drive, and Cd/Dvd burner drive from my Hp Into my Gateway. Everything went with out issue except for my Cd/Dvd drive and that brings me to my question.

After installing the light on the cd drive lights up, and if I place a Cd in you can hear it spinning and as if its trying to read the disk but nothing happens. When I click "Computer" with in the start menu it doesnt show the disk icon either.
Is there some driver, or something with in the computer I need to do to make this run correctly?

Now I am by no means a "Computer Geek", I just have a good mechanical aptitude, So please try an explain this to me as simple as you can

    Thanks in advance.

What did you do, take the drive directly from the hp and put it in the gateway, or did you boot from the original drive in the gateway?

Im sorry lol, But Im having trouble understanding your question, I'll try and answer it but Im not sure if it is what you are looking for.

I removed the cd drive from the hp (Dead) and installed it directly into the Gateway. If you asking me if the Gateway was powered on when I installed it the answer is Yes. I did it this way so I knew that drive plugged in correctly (Light flashing)

Just as an FYI, it is not smart to install device hardware with the laptop turned on unless it is explicitly said to be hot swappable. It may be overly cautious, but it will save you time and money. After checking your device manager as mullen has stated, try turning off your computer (and popping out the battery), reinstalling the drive, and turning on the computer then pressing F2 during startup to jump into the BIOS. This will force the computer to reinitialize its devices and you can see if at its simplest level, the BIOS, it is recognized or not.
