Gateway MT3418 or Gateway CX210S for college student?

Hi, i am going into colllege soon and i want to purchase a laptop. I am in high school right now and i want a laptop to go to the library everyday and do my homework there as my home is way to noisy.
I have found two laptops for sale in my price range. I only want to spend $500 on the laptop itself. Both laptops are used the Mt3418 is about 2 months old and the Cx210s is about the same but had the motherboard, hard drive and a few other small things replaced under warranty due to a malfunction in the laptop.
Which would be a better deal for me?

The Cx has windows Xp and comes with all the standard software i can get it for $500.
the Mt comes with Vista and also microsoft office downloaded onto the computer which i can get for $400. Both are in excellent shape at least they seem to be from the pics. These laptops are local and i the reason i am looking at them is because i can pick them up and check them before i buy.

which do you all think would be the best for me and really last me in the long run?

Or do you guys think that waiting until black friday sales would be best. Just remember i dont want to spend more than $500.

 

wait till black friday sales and get a brand new one

2nd hand has no warrenty and could be dodgy.
