Hey guys I bought a refurbished Gateway MT3419 from Newegg in November and have been using it casually for school and rarely here at my home so my use has been low.

About a month ago when I turned it on I started to get a screen flicker upon boot up. It lasted a good minute or so and then it calmed down. Since then it's done it every time for a few minutes and would eventually settle down. As it sits next to me as I type now the screen is completely dark. I lit up the screen with a flash light just to make sure that the computer is on, and of course everything else seems to be ok.

I made sure it had nothing to do with my brightness being down, I tried an external monitor and it works fine, I tried opening and closing it many times to see if it was a loose wire or to see if it was a switch problem but to no avail.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hoping to get help on how to open my laptop so I can check the wiring. I can't find a guide anywhere on how to.

Its sounds like the LCD backlight and/or inverter has turned south. I'm assuming you don't have a warranty left since it was a refurb? If not, then you may wanna start checking out ebay for a replacement screen. The good news is LCD panels arent that expensive anymore and are relatively easy to replace.

Almost a year later I think I fixed it... I decided to to take off the outside of the screen (the frame or whatever you want to call it) and check out the inverter board. Turns out the board came off its clips and so I decided to figure out how the board hooks up so that way when I replace the inverter I'll know how to install it. Before purchasing a board I decided to just see what happens when I reseat it and give it a go... going on 14 hours now without a flicker!!
