Gateway MT3705 keyboard flex issue...

The keyboard flexing really bothers me. On some notebooks the flex is in some obscure spot but I have major flexing towards the center.. I don't plan on returning this computer. The rest of the computer is fine, and I don't think I'll come across a deal like this for a while (and I'm a student..). So I would like to know if there is any way to remove the keyboard flex.... something like this.

Does anyone know of any similar methods for Gateway notebooks (specifically the MT3705)? Meaning, a safe way to remove the keyboard without dissecting the entire computer. And is it (generally speaking) safe for the computer? Does opening up my notebook computer void its warranty? (pls excuse my ignorance)

 

I'm in the same place. New MT3418 here, keyboard flex is crazy. My fingers bounce on the keyboard as I am typing this. I am about 5 minutes from tearing the whle thing down. Other than that I am pretty happy so far with this thing.

The odd part is I spent some time on a display model with a T2060 in it (forget the number) same 14" size model and case etc, and that keybaoard felt great.

My keyboard is the worst around the "sdf" area.

 

i was just at bestbuy looking at a Gateway MT3705. i found the built in mouse very irresponsive to my touch. the bigger 15.4" MT6451 had a much better mouse on it. the only difference you can tell between them when you look at it is that the MT3705 has a raised edge all around the mouse, whilst the other one doesnt. when using it, the MT3705's mouse was irresponsive and had a more grainy texture. Do any of you notice the same thing? I have a somewhat light touch on the mouse. I use the tip of my finger to move the mouse, and it works on all other laptops, but this one is giving me problems. i noticed that if i use a broader part of my finger , like the fingerprint part, it works fine. also, if i tap lightly on the mouse, it does not register as a single click unless i use the wider part of my finger. have any of you noticed any such thing? do you have a light touch on the mouse or a heavy touch??

 

I had the same issues at first with the touchpad. I turned up the pointer speed and all was well. After quite a few laptops for work I've found all touchpads are abit different, but I get used to them within a few hours.

 

Yeah.. if you increase the sensitivity or speed (can't remember) then the touchpad should be more responsive. But I can't remember having any issues with the touchpad in the first place because I used my wireless mouse from the getgo.

wastin_time, that is EXACTLY where my keyboard flexes too. SDF and the far right side of the keyboard. it makes a hollow thunk sound when i press down on the SDF keys...

 

you can also upgrade the touch pad drivers to fix the problems with the pointer. I upgraded and now i can still leave the sensitivity on medium and still get a great response.

 

Ah thats the laptop I'll be buying sometime this week.

 

yeah, I am also seriously considering this laptop, it is $599 this week at Circuit City. but I am also looking at the MT6451, and i cant decide. i posted a poll, take a look at it and tell me what you think...

Exactly! I am getting used to it though, and still, overall am very satisfied with this notebook.

Problem Description:

My Gateway MT3705 notebook computer's keyboard has serious problem. At the beginning, I found sometimes its keyboard have problem. Now, It is worse and worse. I can not use it. The problems are below:

1. Some keys do not work correctly. For example, "O" key, I type "work", it happens that "wrk" just are typed in.

2. when I am typing , the cursor will automatic move to other place. For example, I type "mother" in second line, only the "mo" are typed in their position, "ther" were typed in other position, because the cursor jumps to other position. I do not know why.

For above problem, I am very sure it is not my operation issue.

Also, the computer's key board is very bad quality, is not like other computer's. how and where send it back to fix these problem or return?

 

I had the exact same MT 3705 issue with cursor position skipping. Identical.

I think I've solved it by setting, via control panel, the keyboard settings cursor blink rate to none.

So far, so good -- it's been several days and the issue hasn't reappeared. It was a nuisance for me, also.
