    Hi:

I was checking the product specs for my Gateway MT3707 laptop computer for maximum memory support. It says that it supports a maximum of 2GB (1GB per slot), other sites such as Crucial.com also says the same thing.

I was able to test it with 4GB of ram (2GB per slot) and it worked perfectly and Windows recognized it. At this moment I'm writing this message with these modules running without any problems.

My question is: If I continue using these two 2GB memory modules, it will damage the laptop?

Note: These modules are the same OEM's Samsung DDR2 PC5300 taken from other Gateway laptop that supports 4GB of RAM.

    It should be fine.

At the time Gateway designed the MT3707, I bet that the maximum commercially available RAM modules were 1GB. That probably is the cause for the spec's quoted limit.

You're fine. The limitation on ram is not a physical thing....there's sometimes a limit on the amount of addressable memory. Like even if there was a 2GB limit that your computer can "see" you can still have 4GB in it. It just won't be able to use it.
