Gateway...? I'm not a fan, but here is a tip.

Go configure new Dell Vostro's and Compaq laptops with similar/identical specs and warranties. If the price difference is not much, go for the Dell/HP (newer is always better in my eyes).

Also, compare the price with a new GW with similar specs.

Finally, I wouldn't order a laptop from NewEgg. They're great (and I love the company), but since they do not allow laptop returns I refuse to purchase one from them.

It's tigerdirect canada, not newegg :)

A 15.4'' vostro would $550 with a Sempron 3500, vista basic and 512MB of RAM.

And Inspiron 1501 (the old model) is in special right now at $500 with an Athlon X2 TK53 and 1GB RAM though

I have the mt6451 and I personally wouldn't recommend. It has some good things such as the turion x2, dvd writer and such, but it has some serious heat issues. The bottom gets really hot even after minimal use. If you are planning to sit it on your desk, it may not matter, but take the heat into consideration. I'm looking to sell mine just because I like to use my laptop while I'm on the couch and it sets my legs on fire. But seriously...

Yeah, mine gets way too hot. I am just about to put it on ebay, it's that bad.
