    Hello,

I am looking to buy a notebook and have discovered what looks to be a good deal on a Gateway MT6831. However, I know little about this company. Any opinions from anyone with knowledge of this company or model would be greatly appreciated. It is a couple hundred dollars cheaper than a machine with the same specs from HP or Dell for example. The general specs are:

    •Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 Processor & 1.73GHz Processor Speed
•15.4" Widescreen UltraBright WXGA TFT with 1280 x 800 Resolution
    •160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
•2048MB DDR2 memory for multitasking power.
    •DVD+/-RW 8x Multi-Format Dual Layer
    •Network Card: 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 port); Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (Tri-mode 802.11a/b/g)
    •Interfaces: 4 x USB 2.0 Ports, 1 x VGA Connector, 1 x S-Video Connector, 1 x IEEE 1394 Connector, 1 x RJ11 (modem), 1 x RJ45 (Ethernet LAN), 1 x Microphone-In, 1 x Headphone/Audio Out, 1 x Kensington Lock Slot
•Weighs only 2.9 kg and measures just 3.6 cm thin for easy portability.
•4-In-1 Digital Media Manager (SD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Multimedia Card)

    Thanks for the help!!

    Best regards,

    Jeff

For the company's opinion try this link http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=102199
I have been a Gateway customer for 6 years now and will be in the future. I like their computers and most of the new laptops have the same build, just different insides. Also if you check out this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=85195 the guy is basically asking the same question about a different model. In the world we live in cheaper means, well cheaper. But far as Gateway goes I can't say I agree. I believe one reason is low overhead. Think about the last time you saw a Gateway TV ad? All the advertising cost's money. Dells and HP's spend A LOT of money on advert's and that cost's money and you end up paying for it. HP's are great lappy's, but for me Gateway is it, good service, good product, GREAT price. Hope this helps.
