Got this Gateway MX7515 from my sis supecting that is was DOA as Gateway service tech had told them. The bottom of the case was slightly melted and that was a good sign but hey if I could get it going cheap then what a steal for 0$, and I do build and service pc's on the side. I took it apart first thing to see what was the source of the melted area and found no damage to motherboard, cpu, or anything else for that matter other than the case so I put it back together thinking they probably sat it on a couch or something and shut the airflow down and got it REAL hot. I then booted it and Windows was corrupt so I did the "restore" option and got it all set back up and located her files for her which was her main concern. It did have an AC adapter issue but I just got one 2 days ago off ebay for $19.00 + shipping and there is still a battery charging issue which isn't a big concern as it will be plugged when I use it mostly. I do online gaming DAOC and was wanting a second pc to run an additional account on a seperate pc instead of on the same one. Got it networked today and logged into the game and was in for about 5 minutes setting everything up and started movinbg around a bit and BOOM it locked up tight. Shut it down and let it cool as it was EXTREMELY hot, tried again and same thing and I found this forum and saw something about "rightmark cpu clock utility" so I got it mainly to see exactly how hot it was getting and folks it was, while in game, approaching 80 degrees celcius and the air being vented would almost burn you. I decided to take it apart again to re-check fan blockage and I blew it out (didn't do this last time as fans were clean) and a SMALL amount of dust came out and I re-did heatsink compound and put it all back together. Now it never went above 55 deg celcius in game and with me opening anything else I could get open while in game. The air being vented is slightly warm and it is runs about 40 while idle. I guess that little bit of dust caused the massive difference in temp. Hope this gives anyone with same problem an idea where to start and I did blow the fans out with heatsink/fan combo out of the unit so I could make sure I got it all cause I did this while in unit and it evidently didn't do any good.

I had a similar story but my older desktop had a lot of dust bunnies so I cleaned the entire interior and it stopped freezing and was slightly faster in operating.
