i hope you realize that the mx7525 will not be portable at all... because of the athlon 64 in it... which produces an immense amount of heat, and uses up tons of battery life at a worse rate than the core duo/core 2 duo... these two processors are really the only ones i would want in a notebook... anything else is just asking for trouble... by not portable i mean about 45 minutes battery max...

The MX7525 weighs about 7lbs, so I'll kind of agree with you about it not being portable. The battery lasts a heck of a lot longer than 45 minutes. I owned a MX7515 (same thing) and the battery lasted about 2hrs and 25mins. I think thats a very respectible battery life for the power this thing has. I have a review for it here. It seems like everyone hates this laptop because its a Gateway. The MX7515 has had zero problems (it belongs to my neighbor now, so I see it all the time). Buy it and enjoy it. That is one heck of a processor.

Edit: About the heat issue: I can't really give you exact temps, but this laptop stayed much cooler than even my girlfriends Inspiron 6000 (with integrated graphics). I had no problem even gaming for hours with this thing on my lap.

The hinges seem to be holding up great. There is no cracking even after a year. The only complaint I really have about the hinges is that they are now a bit loose and the screen wobbles somewhat. This is easily fixable though (usually just tighening some screws).

Performance from CPU is excellent and Graphics card is OK if you are a mid gamer. If you are lucky you will get a 5400RPM HDD instead of the 4200RPM in specs (I did).
After 8 months I got both hinges cracked and my laptop never left home so there is no abuse in usage.
Also note that USB2 performance is very slow so if you use external HDD or DVD burner think twice on getting it. I had to change my enclosures to Firewire to be able to backup and burn at reasonable speed.
I would suggest go Core2 Duo now, this model is quite old (case) and there are better options.
If you still want to buy it get the extended warranty...

    Good luck!
