Hey Guys,
I got a Gateway MX6429 recently. However I made a huge mistake. As soon as I booted the machine, I decided to start fresh and do a clean install of Xp. I didnt realize that i had to burn a driver CD first. Now I'm out of luck because when I formatted I also wiped out the D partition!! OOPS!!.
I downloaded the drivers from Gateway, but a few are giving me problems, particularly Sound...
I would prefer to have a recovery ISO if possible..
Called Gateway and they said it would take them at least 1 - 2 wks to send me a CD!!
Called again, they said my model didnt exist! (are you kidding me???)
So I figured I'd do some google-ing, and I found this site
I would also gladly take an ISO of the MX6428 since the specs are pretty much identical, except that one has mor Ram and a bigger HD, but all other hardware is the same
Thanks Guys
My Specs
1.8 GHZ AMD Turion 64 ML-37
512MB DDR Ram
60GB HD
ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M 64MB shared
Conexant ACLink Audio
DVD/CD-rw drive
PM me if u need more in deph specs

Yeah, Gateway online doesn't keep track of their retail systems. Did you buy from BestBuy? I'm sure that they could help you.
Is sound the only issue? Try downloading the newest ones from Realtek's site.
I hope that helps on terms of sound. -
thanks alot, I actually got it working by pointing XP to the Conexant INF file... seems to have work. Why would Realtek drivers work?? Are they merged with Conexant?? That would be interesting....
Yes I Did get it from Best Buy...Do you know of anyone that can send me the actual Driver Disc??
Thanks again for all your help!! -
and yes all is working now....
-
Glad to hear you figured it out.
Yes, Realtek and Conextant are merged or something like that.. I don't know how it worksI am using those drivers though.. they work fine for me (same audio card as you).

I was just curious what driver you used. I have the same mx6429 laptop. I installed Pro over Home, and having a tough time with an audio driver.
-
The page looks much different from when I got them. Here they are though.

I'm just curious if your Gateway notebook has a SATA hard drive? -

If anybody wants to know the steps i uded to get the sound to work...
1. Download the driver at: http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&uid=134746375 (It Says MX6428, but it should work.
2. Extract archive with Winrar
3. Run Setup.eve, Click OK when the wizzard pops up. When it Fails Close the wizzard.
4.Double Click "Hxfsetup.exe" Wait a second or two
5. Open Up Device Manager, Right Click MultiMedia Controller, click Update Driver.
6. From the Wizzard choose Advanced click Next
7. Choose "Dont Search...." Click Next
8. If asked what type of device, choose Sound video and game controllers
9. You now have to install the driver
10. Uncheck Show Compatible hardware
11. Find Conexant, click Next and you should be good...
