Gateway Has really bad customer service[/SIZE]: I spent $2800.00 on custom laptop for gaming. after 24 days it crapped out.... The Gateway policy is that YOU have to pay them $45.00 for them to send you a box to ship it back to them to fix it! after they had it back for over 10 days and still didn't know what is wrong with it or when I would get it back...I told them to just send me my money back and they got downright nasty with me. I talked with two people in customer service and they told me there was nobody else to talk with "NO returns after 15 days" "They will just fix it and send it back"

I am so disappointed with Gateway. I also had to sign a form that came with the $45.00 return box that said I would approve the charges to my credit card for any "uncoverd repairs that were needed" If This form is not signed; Gatway will simply return the laptop in the condition they received it in.
I've only had this laptop for 24 days !!!!!! I will never buy Gateway again Don't you make the same mistake.
I was told for sombody to come to my house to fix it was only if I bought the "extra plan" but found out that when they come over they just put it in a box most of the time anyway. Ther is NO service center for Gateway unless you "want to bring it to Texas" !!!!
I am still without my system or any idea when I will see it ....I don't even want it I just want my money back $2800.00 plus my $45.00 !!!! :(

Sorry to hear that. If you paid with a credit card that extends your warranty, maybe you can get repairs from other repair centers in the future.

I had a bad experience trying to BUY a Gateway by dealing with someone on the phone, and my gut instinct was to stay away.

are you serious or just being bitter? Doesnt sound right that a company like gateway would act like that

I understand your feelings towards Apple right now, but there is no need to post this 4 times on our forums. Once would be suffice.

This is Gateway, not Apple. Yes, why in the world is this thread located in Apples forum.

I could've told you that! GTW is a down right horrible "computer" company and I've been wishing them a speedy demise since 1995! And they have taken a very long time, giving me immense pleasure to watch their deathroes and profiting from their slide in share price over the years. I recall my excitement in owning my various Pentium 60 tower when it first came out and after the 90 days or so I had problems and called their tech support. On my very first call, I was on hold for nearly 4 hrs and was then cut off. On subsequent calls to resovle tech/support difficulties, I met with similar fate. They just don't know how to be customer focus and have pi$$ poor quality control. I even sent ted waitt an email which he directed to a vp in customer relations - who couldn't understand why I waited so long: I said you tell me! Now look at the poor guy from emachines - his net worth has shrunk by over 60%

Bottomline, you got burned, too bad. Dispute the charges and have your cc company deal with them.

They were ok 10 or 12 years ago but now they are just like every other company. Back then I got a quality desktop system that was built to my specifications. It was a business machine that had its default configuration altered above and beyond what was normally allowed on the website. I did this by going to a kiosk that they had at a local Office Max and they set me up. There are no more kiosk stations from them that I am aware of. It was removed several years ago. Back then modifications to your system didn't void the warranty. Don't know if that is still the case or not. It depends on the company anymore. Noting on that. I still have the 56K modem from that original machine. It became a base for future upgrades with components being swapped out one by one. Nothing remains except for that modem.

And good luck too. I dealt with Alienware before on getting refunds. I cancelled a laptop order with them after hearing some nasty stuff about their machines and it seemed to take too long (it was going on 3 weeks -- was eta 1 week). When I cancelled they said I still had time and they went ahead and put forward the request. A week later I saw the laptop not only was built but shipped. Man did I call and ***** them out. I had to refuse the package but over the next 3 weeks I ended up reporting them to the BBB and filing a credit card dispute for the charged. The charges were in excess of $3000. 2 months later I got a full refund for the laptop, shipping charges, and extended warranty. It was sweet but if it didn't work then what was the point? The up side to this? When I got the chargeback on my credit card about a month later it was followed up by the first of 2 refunds (it was 2 charges made by alienware). Then I proceeded to get a whole new entertainment setup. The works. I didn't owe a dime for the next 3 months as the whole thing blew over.

Yes, I bought my Gateway MX3225 16 days ago. I wanted to return it, but my 15 days return period expired... Don't get me wrong, the laptop is great, only it has REALLY BAD light leakage....

my advise? if the leakage is pretty bad, sell it off on eBay and get some other notebook. Best to not play around with the small companies...
