My sister was ripping her cd's and suddenly for one of the cd's the drive stops working, there is the sound of the (head?) moving but the cd never spins. I tried putting other cd's in and they don't work either. A day or two later, the cd drive works again. The cd's I've used before work so I don't think it's the cd's I'm using. And as of right now the drive doesn't work...again.

Does anyone know if it might be a software or hardware problem? Is there a fix for it?

Make sure the cd doesnt come loose after you close the drive. Since its misbehaving i think its a hardware issue.

thanks for the reply. I just got this thing a couple months ago from BestBuy. Would I have to pay to get it fixed?

I also discovered that slamming the tray shut sometimes makes it work :).
It's kind of like an old tv, you bang it and the picture comes back, you don't know why, but banging works.
