Just out of the blue my daughter's NV58 won't start, the only activity is the red led on the front flashes five times when I push the power button. I have searched the internet but can't find any useful information.

    Thanks

Maybe, but don't think so because if the cmos was dead it still should boot just not remember bios settings.

Does anyone have access to a service manual for NV series laptops. Private message me if you can help out.

I will post my finding here as it may help people going forward, I took my laptop into a local store and popped in their battery. This fixed the laptop, easy fix but why would Gateway incorporate circuitry that does not all allow to run on AC mains and if the battery won't hold a charge?

I have two other laptops in my home. an MSI and a Vaio and both of them run fine on AC or with the battery removed for that matter.

In summary if you're Gateway laptop flashes the LED five times when you try to start it and that's all it will do this is your answer.

BTW; I'm very surprised that no one on this busy forum had a clue in this regard..

The fix was a replacement of the DC power jack, I found out later she had tripped over the cable..
