My Gateway NV5925u is suffering an uh, interesting problem. I'd like to know if anyone else with the NV59 or similar models--basically, any of Gateway's 15" laptops that are not the NV59C--have the same problem.

My laptop is only two months old, but already there is significant scratching and wear on the glossy plastic of the media bar and the screen bezel right above the hinge. The wear is in a straight line and it appears as if some part of the screen bezel is making contact with the media bar, dust is getting trapped in there and scratching both pieces of plastic.

This does not in any way harm the functionality of my laptop, but it doesn't look very nice. The scratches have made a not-so-faint fuzzy white line against the glossy black finish right above the row of touch-sensitive media buttons.

I wonder if this is caused by the bag I keep it in? I use a 15" Targus Sport backpack, and usually the backpack contains a lot more than just my lappy.

Had I known this would have happened, I would have cut a piece of screen protector and put it on there. :(

Yeah, that happened to me too. Quite annoying I must say. I just bought a cheap cloth from Dollar Tree and place it above my keyboard and palm rest when I close the lid. No more scratches for me.

so the probelm i have found is the film that coats the LCD, its some kind of wacky crud prob to reduce glare, anyways when ur laptop is closed, weather its on or if its just hot in your car the film runs when heated and thats what apears on your media bar, and bezel, great idea to put the cloth on ur system, personaly i used 3 differnt cleaning products to remove the crap from the media bar, bezel and LCD, come on gateway think ahead!!
