I'm looking to buy a new laptop pretty soon and I came upon this

    Gateway 15.6" Intel Core i3-330M 2.13GHz Laptop (NV5909H) - Black - Future Shop

I REALLY like the specs on this laptop and the price is right up my alley, but because I've never had any experience with Gateway laptops I'd like to hear some opinions on their build quality.

Are Gateway notebook well-built, are they sturdy enough to take to school and travel?? Will a laptop like this last for 3 years??

In my experience with Gateway, you get more than what you paid for. Gateway laptops seem to be well built and relatively inexpensive. I can't say for this specific model, but my mx6525 lasted 4 years. If you take care of it, there is no reason why it shouldn't last you at least 3 years.

I have gateway fx 7811, since 2008 August, and i will never, ever again buy gateway again. Right from the start had some issues with freezing, but newer bios did the thing. However, 6 months after purchase, for no reason one of the usb broke down. After a year and few months, started getting vertical dead pixels, also screen would turn white, because screen is loosing contacts. I have to press with my fingers near the webcam area, to make it work normal. I found these strong clippers, it does the deal, but its all messed up that i have to use such a techniques to solve the problem.
If i ever going to buy a gaming laptop, I wil go with xotic.
