Well it depends in what you want, if you want a 2,5-3h battery go for the i5 on this gateway. If you want something extra like 6h-8h then get the asus a30jc (no stock right now) with i3. If you want 12h there an asus with su7300 (1.3ghz)..I buyed the gateway nv5926 today, it think is great cause: has one of the best cards on the market, large hdd, 6lb including 6cell batt, touch panel, multigesture pad, great bang for the buck.

the only 5962 i could find was this:
    http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/MystiqueC/5962sp2.shtml

You can find similar products but like http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=476836

the main difference is the hdd is 320gb, more weight (6.2 without batt), and the i5 520m (just 140 mhz difference, 400mhz in turbo mode)

The hp and toshiba models dont have the awesome ati 5650..i've heard a lot of issues with heat problems on the hp's and audio and battery problems on the toshiba..

it isnt i5.. dont you mean the nv5926u? that the same as mine but black xD

I'm looking at buying the NV5925u (same computer, just bronze/brown instead of black), and there's one guy on Youtube who did a review on it. I'm waiting to hear back from him on the build quality, but I did get to see him handle the device onscreen, and it looks to be just as well made (if not slightly better) as the Acer Aspire 5740G it's a clone of.

I've handled the NV5xxx series of Gateway laptops at Best Buy before (with different guts of course) and they don't feel bad. They aren't Thinkpads, of course, but they're not bad, either.

It's interesting to note that the NV592x series of laptops seem to get higher 3DMark06 scores (~7300) than the Acer 5740G (which got around 7100). Not a huge difference of course, but more is always better!

It's only Packard Bell in Europe and Asia. It's Gateway in the US. Packard Bell isn't even really available in the States anymore.

I plan to do a pretty in-depth review on the NV5925u once I receive it and spend a little time putting it through the paces with some benchmarks, games and whatnot (and seeing how far I can push the 5650 above stock clocks...) :D

I recently received the NV5924u (blue) from JR.COM.

It is a good laptop, the only problem is that after two days it doesn't charge the battery beyond 96%.

This model seems to have the same innards as a Acer Aspire 5740g so a BIOS update seems to solve that. I'm gonna ask the guys at the respective 'Owner's Lounge' forum.

Also you have to make the backups disks ASAP, the box doesn't include them.

I haven't had the chance to check games but a spanish guy uploaded some videos to Youtube and the games run real nice.

EDIT: It seems I might need to 'wear' the battery rather than always have it plugged all the time. Will check.

Try discharging it totally until it dies, then recharge overnight. Some Li-Ion batteries are "dumb" and don't have more than the minimum overcharge protection circuits and none of the sophisticated sensors in more expensive batteries to actually figure out what the capacity is.

My old Asus netbook is like that, and because of this the battery gauge is extremely wonky and wrong. Resetting it by doing a full discharge/recharge cycle usually works to recalibrate the battery meter (for a little while at least).

Thanks for the answer. I wear it down to 10% and now it is at 100% .
