    Hello,

    I just ordered a new NV75s and here's the owner's lounge!

My first/final upgrade is putting a SSD in the 2nd hard drive slot, 7mm will fit. I've been going through the forums to see if the SSD is worth, so far it's not.

I have the white AMD A6 variant, (I know there's several and I was on the line between that and the i3 version.)

    Hello Soulzero,

I am also a fellow owner of the NV75s, white variant, bought from Newegg: Newegg.com - Refurbished: Gateway NV Series NV-75S23U Notebook AMD A-Series A6-3420M(1.5GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD DVD-RW AMD Radeon HD 6520G

Unfortunately today my hard-drive just failed, and I lost all my data. Completely my fault, I already knew that hdds fail over time and should've made backups.
Right now I am trying to upgrade to an SSD as well.

My question for you is, how exactly do you dismantle the old hdd? Is there a guide somewhere? Any directions would be highly appreciated, thank you in advance. =)

    Nevaeh,

Both of the Hard drive slots support up to SATA III, but SATA II will work. You mean to replace it? That's extremely simple.

    Upgrade Acer Aspire AS7560 memory

A link above on a quick guide. The Acer 7560 is the SAME as the Gateway NV-75s we have.

If you want to do my setup of a single SSD (Get a 7mm drive) and a regular HD for space (320GB) all in on computer that's possible too.

Lastly how did your hard drive last til it fail? I'm getting a little anxiety.

    Have fun :)

Soulzero thanks for the quick reply dude, you're a life-saver! That guide is awesome.
Is 7mm drive the same as 2.5"?

My hard drive lasted for about 6 months before it failed. If you look at the feedback section on Newegg, another buyer had his hdd fail after 21 days and returned it.

Why are you even anxious? Didn't you replace the regular HD with a single SSD?

    You're misunderstanding me.

First your computer have 2 hard drive SLOTS. You can put two hard drive in it. Currently, I have 2. I have an SSD and the regular hard drive.

Second, yes it's that simple just replace that original hard drive with the SSD.

The regular hard drive can be replace with nearly any size 2.5" SSD. (So you're fine if it's a 9mm or 7mm)

Although, the EXTRA hard drive slot is meant for 7mm SSD or HD. You'll see two when opening it.

Thanks for clarifying. If I were you, I'd back up data immediately just in case if the HD fails.
