Working on a NV7915u that got dropped. All is well except the hard drive that was making noise and no longer showed up in the bios. Bought a new WD 500 gig 2.5 in sata drive. Then used the Gateway DVD's to rebuild the system. During the first boot of Windows 7, it gets to the "Starting Services" point, then errors out saying something like Windows cannot be installed on this system/hardware. I googled and found a way to get past that message, but now Windows update and Windows defender both will not run, plus the video driver is generic and won't go past 1024x768. When I try to load drivers downloaded from Gateway, Windows says they are unsigned and won't install them. I don't believe the new hard drive is bad as I'm not getting any read/write errors. I've googled and tried many things but can't get past the Windows update not working. Any suggestions?
