One of the reasons I purchased the NX860XL was the option to upgrade to 4 GIG of RAM. NOTE: I am currently using 2 GIG of RAM. While I was on line I decided to check prices for single 2 GIG memory. To my surprise Kingston and Corsair indicate the NX860XL's max. memory is 2 GIG. Is this true? Although, Gateway will sell 4 GIG, that is if your are willing to fork out an additional $1,300 for the NX860XL. Currently, I don't need the extra memory, but when I go to a 64 bit operating system I will want to upgrade. Also, the sales person from Gateway who sold me the laptop made it very clear I could upgrade to 4 GIG. I Know, I could call Gateway again, but I'll be busy pressing buttons on my phone for the next 10 minutes before I am directed to a human being. NOTE: This seems to be the trend for support, not just Gateway.
I would appreciate any answer/s.

Mine is running with 2gb of ram and I've never, in more than a year, used more than 1,5..
Why will u need that much ram?
when the time comes for that amount of ram we will be better off buying a new computer -
I use a lot of virtual instrument samples through musical sequencing that if allowed, will use more than 2 GIG of RAM. Many users currently have to use multiple workstations (desktops) to meet their musical demands based upon the limitation of RAM. Currently most software will only run on 2 GIG of RAM or less due to 32 bit operating systems and 32 bit software. My current sequencing software will run on 64 bit, but there are still complications due to hardware and audio compatability with VISTA. Note: I am not referring to Soundblaster, but high end recording audio cards.
Most hardware and musical companies will be in better shape with VISTA within the next year to year and a half. By then I will want to do the shift to VISTA Ultimate (64 bit). I just purchased the NX860XL so that I may do some live applications with my musical equipment. Also, I do not plan to replace the laptop within the next year when I was told I could upgrade to 4 GIG. The 4 GIG of RAM will meet my projected needs for virtual orchestral sample arrangments.
Again, my question is why does Kingston and Corsair indicate the NX860XL's max. memory is 2 GIG? This is not what Gateway's website indicates or what my sales rep. said to me.
